Just last month, rumors surfaced around the upcoming title Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League that several major villains from the Arkham series would be returning as part of post-launch DLC. These included the likes of Deathstroke and Poison Ivy, the latter of which was confirmed to be part of the main story, albeit in a seemingly very unpopular child form.
Another big tease from this leak was the possible return of The Joker, which would be very strange considering he popped his clogs in Batman: Arkham City. However, a new reveal from Rocksteady seems to have confirmed The Joker's addition, as the teaser image for the first official season of Suicide Squad content is very much centered around The Clown Prince of Crime.
The image was shared by @mmmmmmmmiller earlier today, and features Harley Quinn standing outside a large tower decorated with teeth, newspapers, and a large laughing mouth as a doorway. Fans also quickly spotted that one of the newspapers on the side of the tower features an image of The Joker, which was then enhanced and turned right side up to give us a clearer view.
With the reveal of this teaser image, it seems as though The Joker's return has been pretty much confirmed, though that left us with more questions than answers. Thankfully, @mmmmmmmmiller answers them in a follow-up tweet, claiming that the Joker being added to Suicide Squad is actually Jack Oswald White and came from a different universe.
They also claim that The Joker was the "last surviving human from his universe", in which Brainiac won and seemingly wiped out humankind. This version of The Joker was apparently recruited to Task Force X and was a "Suicide Squad of one", before being phased over to Earth-1 by Hack. It's also claimed that The Joker is currently being held in captivity by Brainiac who is running experiments on him.
In terms of gameplay, @mmmmmmmmiller claims that Joker's melee weapon will be a mace, made up of a cane with a spiked boxing glove on the end that can shoot out and retract. He will also reportedly use bombs to launch himself into the air and use an umbrella to glide through the air currents, a feature which is directly compared to Breath of the Wild.
A release date for the first season of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League wasn't revealed by this leak, though we can probably expect it to drop at some point in the first half of 2024 if Rocksteady plans on supporting the game well. We've got to actually play the base game yet though, which has already been taking a pretty hefty beating from fans and critics alike.
