Vasco is one of the most popular companion options in Starfield, and the game's latest major update resolves a frustrating issue that has long made it difficult for players to travel with the robot on their starship. With his pleasant interactions, entertaining lines of dialogue, and inability to judge players by their actions, it's not much of a surprise that Vasco is often selected as the companion of choice by Starfield players who easily get worn out by traveling with the other human characters.
Choosing a companion to travel with in Starfieldis one thing, but assigning and maintaining a starship's crew presents a very different mechanic. While players can only choose one companion to travel with when exploring the surface of a planet or fighting through bands of pirates aboard star stations, players can be accompanied by a much larger crew aboard their ship, depending on the craft's size and how much a player has invested in the ship command skill. Crew members actively boost the stats and capabilities of a ship, and human crewmates tend to wander a ship's interior and interact naturally with beds, chairs, control panels, and the like.
Vasco, however, is generally too large to walk around the inside of a ship. The latest 1.10.31 update for Starfield addresses a major issue with the Model A robot when assigned to a ship, with the patch fixing a bug which would almost always cause Vasco's character model to spawn incorrectly inside a starship. Previously, this issue would be encountered by most players traveling with Vasco in Starfield, and would typically result in him clipping through the floor of a ship, blocking an important doorway, or even appearing stuck to the exterior of a starship. Following this update, Vasco now stays in the landing bay as he's supposed to when a ship is in flight, remaining in an oddly cute hibernation mode.
This post, shared online by Reddit user Imaginary-Rent-4200, provides a demonstration of how Vasco will now correctly ride passenger in a ship's landing bay. Accessing this landing bay is still impossible while a ship is in flight, though players can make use of Starfield's photo mode feature to get a peek at Vasco in this part of the ship.
The latest update for Starfield carries with it a massive list of patch notes, complete with tons of fixes ranging from art and lighting fixes, to crucial bug fixes, to new features such as third-person ship view FOV and additional character poses in photo mode. The update appears to be the largest the game has yet received, and potentially paves the way for further content updates in the future.
