Although No Man's Sky Omega update and expedition launched just over a month ago, creator Sean Murray has already started hinting at the release of yet another new content update for the game via a series of tweets which feature a particular emoji. Following the remarkably long list of free content updates that have been released for No Man's Sky over the past seven years, it can be difficult to predict what Hello Games will add to the game next, but there are a few features that fans can definitely expect to come this year.
The development of No Man's Sky has been going strong throughout the seven years since the game was released, with the plethora of free updates drastically improving the game and transforming public perception of the procedurally generated space exploration title. No Man's Sky's popularity and player count has only snowballed over the past few years alongside the frequent updates that have been released, many of which have featured multiplayer community expeditions and limited-time Twitch campaigns.
Though No Man's Sky's Omega update released midway through February, bringing with it a new expedition, ownable pirate freighters, and more, it seems yet another new content drop is imminent. The first hint came as a simple tweet from No Man's Sky developer Sean Murray, which contained a single shooting star emoji. Many veteran No Man's Sky fans recognize such «emoji tweets» as signs of an incoming content update, with the emoji in question somehow relating to the theme of the update. This creates plenty of room for speculation from the game's community, and excitement has only built after Murray repeated the emoji in further tweets.
A shooting star could mean a lot of things in a space exploration game like No Man's Sky, but a trailer shown last year at The Game Awards celebrating seven years of No Man's Sky did give fans a hint at what's to come in 2024. The trailer ended with a glimpse of what looks like an entirely new space station design, complete with an interior that differs from that which currently exists in the game. Overhauled space stations are a feature that fans have been looking forward to for quite some time, with dataminers initially discovering these new space station assets earlier last year.
Whether this feature will arrive in the upcoming update is entirely unknown, but whatever the case, new space stations are certainly on the list of things to expect from No Man's Skyin 2024. Some fans have also considered this update might deliver a new expedition for the game, though this possibility seems somewhat unlikely considering the previous expedition event ended just recently.
