Spider-Man 3: Insomniac Games Teases ‘Pretty Epic’ Possible Sequel

Whether or not Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will receive post-launch DLC similar to the first game remains to be seen, but creative director Bryan Intihar sure seems to be hinting at not just upcoming content, but possibly upcoming content related to fellow Marvel superhero Daredevil.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a hit with players. Insomniac Games did an exceptional job making the sequel as good, if not better, than the previous game. The design of New York’s surroundings is immersive and great swing and glide through. There are great new characters and an exciting storyline. Players, however, noticed a peculiar omission in a game scene.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may have introduced a bunch of new characters, but Insomniac says it's "not running out of villains" just yet. 

When you have a team like Insomniac Games working on a set of Marvel Comics characters, you might feel they would “connect” the two titles in various ways. With the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the very positive reaction to it, many expected a hint of what might come next with Marvel’s Wolverine, a game that we haven’t gotten any new details on in some time. To that end, there are no direct crossovers or “hints” of where Wolverine might be in this world or what his game might entail. According to the creative director for the projects, that was by design, but they are still “connected.”

Insomniac Games released Marvel's Spider-Man 2, its eagerly awaited sequel to 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, on October 20 to critical acclaim. The first-party title has also become the fastest selling PlayStation Studios title in PlayStation history, shipping over 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed. On the back of the success of Spider-Man, Insomniac is already looking ahead to its future releases. The Sony-owned studio had announced via a reveal trailer in 2021 that it was working on a Wolverine game. Now, Insomniac has confirmed that the title will be set in the same universe as Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's director has addressed the Sandman plothole and there isn't really any reason as to why the villain appeared in both games. 

Spider-Man 2's director, Bryan Intihar, has acknowledged that Sandman's inclusion in the sequel is a bit of a plothole thanks to a collectible that could be found in the first game.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is full of easter eggs, though one in particular stood out for fans. A plaque mentioning the Nelson and Murdock law firm was found in the first installment somewhere in Hell's Kitchen; in this sequel, the plaque is still there, but the Nelson and Murdock text is gone, hinting at a possible relocation of their office.

For all the cool things that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has to offer, some concepts didn’t make it. Speaking on IGN’s Beyond, senior creative director Bryan Intihar revealed that the Symbiote possessing Sandman was one such idea.

The Spider-Man IP has shot Insomniac Games into the stratosphere, bringing the studio (and Sony in turn) incredible critical and commercial success. The developer is, of course, far from done with Marvel, because not only will it inevitably make a Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 and potentially even a Venom spinoff, it’s also confirmed to be working on Marvel’s Wolverine.
