Slay the Spire 2, a sequel to the beloved roguelike deck-builder, has been revealed at the Triple-i Initiative and is launching in Early Access at some point in 2025.
Over the past few years, we've seen a rise in the roguelike deck-building genre thanks to releases like Monster Train, Card Quest, Dicey Dungeons, and a whole lot more. Although the subgenre is only just starting to take off, there's one particularly beloved game that stands tall as the one that pushed the genre into the mainstream - 2017's Slay the Spire.
Originally released in Early Access all the way back in 2017, Slay the Spire quickly became one of the most popular roguelike games of the last few years, something that was cemented even more when it launched to rave reviews in 2019. Developer MegaCrit has been relatively quiet since the full release of Slay the Spire, but it turns out that it was cooking something very exciting.
As revealed during the Triple-i Initiative, the next game from MegaCrit is none other than Slay the Spire 2, which was shown off with a short but stylish cinematic trailer. The trailer wasn't all that long, but at least fans of the first game now know that an official sequel is being worked on by the same team that kickstarted the roguelike deck-building genre.
The short cinematic trailer didn't reveal too much about how Slay the Spire 2 is going to advance the gameplay from the first game, but screenshots shared in a press release do at least give us an idea of how it's going to look. For example, one screenshot shows an encounter with a Symbiote that can either be killed with fire by removing a random card from your deck or approached at the loss of six health points.
We've known for some time now that MegaCrit was working on its next game, as it previously changed its Twitter bio to "Working on our next game!" .
As great as it is to see a sequel to Slay the Spire, it does admittedly come as a bit of a surprise. When asked if we'd be getting more Slay the Spire in the past, MegaCrit said that it had nothing to announce, which convinced fans that it had to be something new. If it means we get another deck-building classic, we'll take the misdirection, though.

In a group interview with content creators in London, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that Blizzard plans to allow Dracthyr to roll other classes besides Evoker in The War Within. During the Interview, Ion confirmed that while that's the plan for the expansion, it won't be a launch feature, but he's hoping they'll be ready early on in the expansion. A glimpse of this future happened on the BlizzCon Warbands preview, when Blizzard has a Dracthyr character wearing leather gear by accident.
Publisher Bohemia Interactive has had a large impact on PC gaming over the past decade or so, with major genre-defining titles like Arma and DayZ to their name. But did you know Bohemia also has another major game it’s currently supporting that’s never been on PC? Initially released back in 2019, the free-to-play Vigor has attracted over 20 million players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, but it's never been released on PC. Why? Honestly, I don’t know! Obviously, not every game has to come to PC, but Vigor is the type of experience that specifically does well on the platform, so it doesn’t make much sense.
