The team of ex-Silent Hill developers known as Bokeh Game Studio gave horror fans a lengthy look at their new game Slitterhead on Friday at Summer Game Fest, revealing something fans might not have expected. Slitterhead looks like less of a creeping, psychological horror game in the vein of Silent Hill or Siren, and more of an action game involving swords and guns.

Unbroken Studios and Warner Bros’ Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will launch on 3rd September 2024, as announced at this year’s Summer Game Fest with a new trailer. It’s still a game about the Potterverse’s broomstick-riding sport, allowing players to play against the computer and each other across various single player and multiplayer modes, and it’s still a new instalment in the world of an author, JK Rowling, who has an on-going track record for endorsing transphobia.

This weekend will be full of new game trailers and content shown at Summer Games Fest and other gaming showcases, but don’t let the new announcements distract you from the great games that just came out. While the waiting time between new console game releases can seem to drag on forever sometimes, new games are always released on Steam.

Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake had a strong showing at the recent Silent Hill Transmission, with its sound design and presentation praised even amid frame rate issues. While it remains faithful to the original, some staff members who worked on the original game, like monster designer Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka, were looking for more changes.

Cyan Worlds has announced the release date of the Riven remake, set for June 25th, with the game being available on PC, Mac, Meta Quest 2, and Meta Quest 3. This complete overhaul of the classic 1997 game brings back many of the original creators to re-envision Riven for modern audiences. The original itself was the sequel to Myst and had built upon the foundations of that influential puzzle game too.
