Reynatis, a game that many thought was going to be exclusive to Japan after only appearing in the Japanese Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, has been confirmed for a worldwide release in 2024 on PlayStation, Switch, and PC.
Last week's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase was full of exciting announcements, from Xbox exclusives like Pentiment and Grounded coming to the Switch, to Epic Mickey finally getting a remake after more than a decade. That was just the English Partner Showcase, too, as the Japanese one had a few exclusive announcements like Mother 3 getting ported to Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
As big as an announcement as Mother 3 finally getting a Switch port is, the most exciting reveal that was kept exclusive to the Japanese Partner Direct was for an action RPG called Reynatis. Don't worry, though, as NIS America has confirmed that the game is going to be released worldwide in 2024 and won't be a Switch exclusive, as it's also coming to PlayStation and PC.
NIS America has confirmed that the "dark action RPG" that's directed by Takumi Isobe and takes place in a realistic recreation of Shibuya, will be released in Fall 2024 worldwide. Reynatis will have you taking control of two protagonists, Marin and Sari, as they're put in the middle of an "ultimate clash between magic and order".
In the press release for Reynatis, the game is described as having an "enthralling story that tackles oppression, clashing ideals, and the price of freedom" as the wizard Marin and MEA office Sari sit on opposing sides of the conflict between free use of magic and order. Players will be able to explore Shibuya while keeping their magic concealed to talk to civilians, go into shops, and accept quests. Shibuya isn't the only area in the game, however, as there's also an alternate world known as Another that is "teeming with ferocious monsters and secrets to uncover".
Kingdom Hearts fans have taken a particular interest in Reynatis due to how many similarities there are between its world and that of Verum Rex.
You won't have to keep your powers concealed for long, though, as exposing your inhuman powers and true self will let you enter a "Liberated" mode that lets you harness magic for combat. The press release also confirms that Marin and Sari aren't the only playable characters and that there are actually six in the game overall, each with their own unique abilities.
