PS Plus Extra and Premium Confirm New Day One Game for May 9

Microsoft has officially announced the four games that are coming to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service in the first half of May 2024. New games are added to Xbox Game Pass in two waves every month. The first wave typically takes up the first 15 days of the month, while the second wave comes in the back-half of any given month. As expected, Microsoft has now revealed all the games coming in the first wave of new Xbox Game Pass additions for May 2024.

It seems as though Dave the Diver is a big hit with those subscribed to the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus. The Extra tier of PlayStation Plus gives subscribers access to everything that comes with the Essential tier, like the monthly free games, as well as a huge rotating library of select PS4 and PS5 titles, ala Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation now. For the most part, the new PS Plus Extra games are comprised of older titles, but there are times when new games debut on the service.

Sony has made four new game trials available to PlayStation Plus Premium members.

Sony has updated the Extra tier of its PlayStation Plus subscription service to add Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, a brand-new, day one release. PlayStation Plus isn't exactly known for its day one releases, especially when compared to Xbox Game Pass, but that doesn't mean that the service is totally without day one games. In fact, numerous day one games have been added to PlayStation Plus over the years.

Steam users looking for a new co-op game to play should mark Thursday, August 8 on their calendars, as that's the day Cat Quest 3 will release for the platform. Developed by The Gentlebros for Steam and other platforms, the Cat Quest games are humorous action-RPGs that challenge players to complete quests, fight a variety of enemies, conquer dungeons, earn new gear, and more. The games haven't exactly blown up in popularity, but they are solid picks nonetheless.

It's been confirmed that SteamWorld Heist 2 will be a day one Xbox Game Pass game when it releases on August 8. Xbox Game Pass has had an impressive year so far, kicking things off with the smash hit Palworld and keeping the momentum going strong with a steady string of high-quality day one releases. Luckily for subscribers, there's no sign that Xbox Game Pass' momentum is slowing down anytime soon.

A newly confirmed day one Xbox Game Pass game for June 4, Rolling Hills, may appeal to fans of life sim games like Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley led the charge when it came to the life sim/cozy game renaissance, inspiring all kinds of similar games that offer their own unique twists on the concept. There are multiple Stardew Valley-style games readily available on Xbox Game Pass, including Stardew Valley itself.

The Epic Games Store free games for the week of April 25 to May 2 are Industria and Lisa: The Definitive Edition. Epic Games Store users have new freebies to claim every week. Most of the time, Epic Games Store users are given plenty of advance notice when it comes to what free games they will be able to add to their digital libraries, but there are times when the launcher surprises users with an unexpected freebie.

The Nintendo Indie World showcase confirmed the release date for Little Kitty, Big City, a game that will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one of its release. Xbox Game Pass announcements typically come directly from Microsoft itself, but there are times when reveals happen elsewhere. For example, sometimes companies drop release date trailers for games that have already been confirmed for Game Pass.

Sony routinely adds new games to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, a curated library of PS4 and PS5 titles that’s accessible to those subscribed to PlayStation Plus’ Extra and Premium tiers at no additional cost. As is the case with all such subscription services though, the PS Plus Game Catalog’s library of games is a rolling one that also routinely sees games being removed.

Subscribers to the Extra tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription service should note that seven Final Fantasy games are set to leave the lineup on May 21, with 18 other titles getting the boot as well. Those who are signed up to the Essential tier of PlayStation Plus can keep those games forever as long as they stay subscribed, but the games that make up the Extra and Premium tiers are available on a rotating basis.

The PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog is expanding to include 14 new games today. The April 2024 additions to PS Plus even include one day-one release.
