New Co-Op Game Coming to Steam on August 8

Steam users looking for a new co-op game to play should mark Thursday, August 8 on their calendars, as that's the day Cat Quest 3 will release for the platform. Developed by The Gentlebros for Steam and other platforms, the Cat Quest games are humorous action-RPGs that challenge players to complete quests, fight a variety of enemies, conquer dungeons, earn new gear, and more. The games haven't exactly blown up in popularity, but they are solid picks nonetheless.
The original Cat Quest game was released in 2017 and earned «Overwhelmingly Positive» reviews from Steam users. The sequel, Cat Quest 2, was released a couple of years later and enjoyed a similar «Overwhelmingly Positive» reception. Cat Quest 2 is a marked improvement over the original in a number of ways, but its most notable upgrade is the addition of co-op multiplayer, giving players the chance to experience the adventure with a friend at their side.
Considering how well-received the first two Cat Quest games were, it's no surprise that there are many who are looking forward to Cat Quest 3's release on August 8. The Cat Quest 3 release date was confirmed as part of the recent Nintendo Indie World showcase event, with the game also planned to launch for Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms as well as Steam.
Cat Quest 3 will retain the open world, co-op, action-RPG gameplay associated with the previous games, but it will set itself apart thanks to its pirate theme. Cat Quest 3 will let players control a pirate ship and explore a fresh world full of secrets, treasures, and enemies to encounter. Based on what's been shown of the game so far, it looks as though it will be a largely similar experience to the previous two titles, but with some general improvements to go along with the new pirate theme, with the Steam page specifically pointing out its «newly refined combat system» that will include «tighter attack combos and weapon swapping.»
Co-op is a selling point for many gamers, and the inclusion of the feature should go a long way in generating interest in Cat Quest 3 when it releases on August 8. 2024 has already seen its fair share of notable co-op games released for the Steam platform, including record-breaking new releases like Helldivers 2 and early access game Palworld.
In the meantime, August 8 is shaping up to be a rather notable day for indie game enthusiasts. Besides Cat Quest 3, indie game fans can also look forward to the launch of SteamWorld Heist 2, which is set to release on the very same day.
TheGentleBros' Cat Quest series is back with its third entry, which has a pirate motif. Cat Quest 3 features an open-world, sailing, treasure, and a lot of Pi-rats to fight.
