Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment is seemingly working on a «cross-platform RPG» built using Unreal Engine. Obsidian Entertainment was founded over 20 years ago and has gone on to develop some of the most popular and iconic RPGs of all time. Obsidian was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, and since then, the studio has continued to release critically-acclaimed work.
Obsidian's first Xbox-published game was the survival game Grounded, a title that combines typical survival game elements with a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids premise. Grounded was followed up by the narrative-driven RPG Pentiment, which released to rave reviews in 2022. Action-RPG Avowed is next up for Obsidian, with the highly-anticipated game expected to launch later this year for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
With Obsidian owned by Xbox, it makes sense for its games to be released as Xbox console exclusives, which is seemingly the plan with Avowed. However, a future Obsidian RPG could be a multi-platform release, opening the door for it possibly appearing on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles as well. This is according to a job listing for a Senior Environment Artist where Obsidian plainly states that it is looking for someone to create «aesthetically pleasing environments for a cross-platform RPG.» Of course, «cross-platform» could be referring to just PC and Xbox, but there is already precedent for Xbox-published Obsidian games to be released on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
Xbox recently started experimenting with bringing its first-party games to competing consoles. It picked four games to start with, two of which were Obsidian titles. Both Grounded and Pentiment have been released for PS4, PS5, and Switch, and so it stands to reason that future Obsidian games will make the jump as well, though it's unclear if they will be multi-platform at launch or if some time will pass before they eventually come to competing consoles.
With Microsoft spending so much time pushing Avowed as an Xbox console exclusive, it's hard to see the game suddenly becoming a multi-plat release for launch. On the other hand, it wouldn't be outlandish for The Outer Worlds 2 to be multi-plat at launch. After all, the first Outer Worlds game was a multi-platform release, and so there is already a built-in audience for the sequel on competing platforms.
Some Obsidian fans on non-Xbox consoles will be hoping that this job listing points in the direction of a Fallout: New Vegas sequel or a remake of the beloved 2010 game. There have been rumors and rumblings about a grand return to New Vegas of some kind, but nothing official to that effect has been announced at the time of this writing.

From the very start of Fallout: New Vegas, the titular city is dangled in front of you. However, while you look close enough to Vegas on the world map, heading there right away will only result in your death. Instead, you're expected to take the long way around - and one fan has worked out exactly how long that road is.

A new report is bad news for subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, as data suggests that spending on those services has been stalled for nearly a year. Xbox Game Pass is a cornerstone of Microsoft's current gaming strategy, with the company bolstering the service through the release of massive, day one games.
