A new trailer for Princess Peach: Showtime! has arrived, sharing a couple more of the costumed transformations that Princess Peach can undergo on her upcoming adventure. Princess Peach: Showtime! is set for release on 22nd March.
The two new forms are Ninja Peach and Cowgirl Peach, joining previously revealed roles that include Swordfighter Peach, Detective Peach, Patisserie Peach and more. Each one has different abilities, so Ninja Peach will be all stealthy, hiding in shadows and foliage to sneak up on enemies, while Cowgirl Peach is shown with a lasso and racing through levels on horseback.
The game sees Princess Peach attending a show at the Sparkle Theatre, only to be confronted by Grape and Sour Bunch who take over the theatre as part of some dastardly plan. Peach has to team up with the theatre’s guardian Stella to fight them off, going through multiple world and scenarios themed after stage productions, both in tone and set dressing.
Stella will grant Peach her own ability to whip out and hit nearby scenery on the way, but it will really be through channelling her inner Kirby and taking on other roles that Peach will be able to foil the Sour Bunch’s plans.
It’s high time that Princess Peach got her own video game again, almost two decades on from Super Princess Peach on the Nintendo DS. Before then, she was best known for being the damsel in distress to Mario’s adventures, but since the early 2000s Nintendo has tried to broaden the character, so she often featured as a secondary playable character, in addition to her recurring roles in the menagerie of Mario sports games. You do have to wonder what took Nintendo so long to push one of their highest profile female characters as a lead once more, but we’re here now and Princess Peach: Showtime! looks like a fun and inventive adventure that we’re keen to try.
