The Pax Dei team is reminding everyone that not only will players create most things in the world, there will also be flora and fauna there to discover. This time, the team is previewing some of the fauna, showing off new screenshots of animals in the world, taken from its current Friends and Family playtest build.
Shared on the game’s official Discord, Mainframe reminded us of this:“Within the vast world of Pax Dei, your character will traverse alongside a diverse array of wildlife, as depicted in the screenshots captured from our F&F build. From adorable creatures to formidable beasts, the fauna of Pax Dei showcases both charm and danger. Be prepared to encounter them on your journey!”
Pax Dei is aiming at a richly detailed world, so it’s no surprise the animals are created to match the world. There’s some definite variety too. See a fluffy fox up close, a bunny hopping through the grass, a warthog on a rock, or the close-up bit of a jumpscare that is a badger that looks almost like it’s glad to meet you, with a smile. Other shots include a side view of a badger, some deer, a wolf by a river, and a roaring bear.
Of course, there will be ways that the wildlife comes into play, whether hunting for resources or by posing danger to a stray human out and about in the world.
As we wait for the announcement of another public playtest and the eventual Early Access set for this spring, we can at least count on some peeks from the Pax Dei team. Since the game is one where we’ve heard a number of times that everything is player-created, it’s nice to see some of the things in the game world that are simply part of the environment.

On a planet that is not our own, in a timeline very different from ours, the last heirs of aristocracy cling to the shadows of a secluded mountain valley known as the Dramark. It’s only deep within the valley that a tiny, proud crust of civilization can be kept hidden from the Ruin (that’s what people call the light of the dying star that has been changing the countryside and its people for generations, turning them into monsters). Meanwhile, long-dead mechanical constructs called syllokinetics, automatons that were to be the people’s saviors, sit and wither on the horizon. Elsewhere, the Dramark’s lavish estates and their downstairs staff carry on as best they can.
