Perhaps the most anticipated game of all time, and considering developer Rockstar's secretive nature, even the most minor GTA 6 morsels can send the series' legions of starving fans into a tizzy. Case in point: GTA 6 has been added to Rockstar's website database, with placeholders for four screenshots, cover art, and a release date appearing, and fans are frothing at the mouth. Apparently, it wasn't meant to go live just yet; Rockstar has since rolled these changes back.

Development on the rumored Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake might very well have kicked off late last year.

Great news — Skull and Bones is releasing on February 16, 2024, as Ubisoft announced at The Game Awards live. 

The game industry has suffered yet another round of layoffs, as Ubisoft confirms that it has cut 124 employees worldwide as part of an ongoing restructuring effort. The bulk of that number, 98 in total, were let go from Ubisoft's business administrative services and IT in Canada, as well as the Hybride VFX studio in Montreal.

Five former Ubisoft employees, including former chief creative officer Serge Hascoët and former editoral head Tommy François, have been taken into custody by French police with regard to allegations of sexual misconduct during their time at the publisher. That's according to an article in French newspaper Libération (via Eurogamer) which echoes allegations from French videogame union Solidaires Informatique Jeu Vidéo, posted on Xitter just this morning.

Five former Ubisoft staff members have been detained by police and questioned over allegations of sexual misconduct while employees of the company.

In 2020, Ubisoft was hit with accusations of sexual harassment and assault. A year later, employees claimed that the French publishing giant had "a way of burying" complaints. Former devs who wished to remain anonymous alleged that Ubisoft would do nothing, move the person being accused, or even promote them, rather than taking any meaningful action. Two years later, arrests have finally been made.

Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot believes cloud streaming will be as transformative to gaming in the coming years as Netflix was to TV.

The CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, has spoken about the company’s recently announced cloud gaming deal with Microsoft, and while he thinks that game streaming “will take time” to take off, he believes it’ll eventually have an impact on the games industry comparable to what Netflix streaming had on TV.

Ubisoft came out of nowhere to 'rescue' Microsoft from its litigation with UK regulator CMA (Competition and Markets Authority). As you'll undoubtedly recall, the CMA was the only regulator to successfully block Microsoft's groundbreaking acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft appealed to the CAT (Competition Appeal Tribunal), but it would have been a long and arduous road to pursue, as CAT could only recommend another outcome to the CMA without being able to enforce it.

Streaming has played a big role in how we consume entertainment media for a good while now. With services like Netflix and Spotify, consumers can easily take in content with a button press. However, we’re not yet seeing this big move for video games. We might be a ways off from a seamless experience like how Netflix provides films and television series. However, Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, is finding that streaming will become far more mainstream sooner than you might have expected.

Last year, it was claimed in reports that Ubisoft Quebec had started development on a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising, which would be based on Hawaiian Polynesian mythology and feature an overhauled visual style. That project, however, won’t be seeing the light of day, it seems. It was recently reports that the sequel had been cancelled, and now, Ubisoft has confirmed the same in a statement to VGC.

Ubisoft has reportedly killed an unrevealed sequel to Immortals: Fenyx Rising. According to a new report from VGC, several sources told the outlet that early development on a follow-up was halted earlier in the month before being canceled completely, as company leadership was uncertain about its viability as a property. 

Ubisoft's Q1 results are in and net sales are down nine percent year-on-year, but there are still 10 games set to launch in the remainder of this fiscal year.

The Microsoft/Activision Blizzard merger is closer than ever to fruition. Earlier this week, the US Supreme Court has denied, in the person of Justice Elena Kagan, the request filed by a group of gamers for an emergency injunction to block the deal. Not that such a request was reasonably likely to be granted, especially after the Federal Trade Commission was turned down.

Ubisoft has said that its Q1 results is ahead of target while net sales are down 9% year-on-year. The Assassin's Creed maker's new financial report also highlighted that net bookings, while down 8% overall, was strong for its Tom Clancy Rainbow Six Siege during the period.
