A new report has alleged that Hyenas, the recently cancelled space-set loot shooter from Creative Assembly, was Sega's «biggest budget game ever».

You know it’s the holiday season when there are a million things to watch in theaters and at home. Forget Christmas carols: The halls are ringing with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Who’s under the tree and on your TV? That’s right: Barbie. And for the gamers, Santa has a stocking stuff: the Gran Turismomovie you did not ask for. It’s unclear if you were on the naughty or nice list this year...

Sega announced its cancellation of last week, which developer Creative Assembly attributed to overambition and a saturated market. Reportedly the most expensive game Sega ever published, it briefly had a big-name Hollywood filmmaker on the project aswell. District 9 and Elysium director reportedly gave input on Hyenas’ story, massively influencing the game’s direction.

In a world of sequels and franchises, there are still some movies that leave us wanting more. The internet is sharing which movies deserve sequels in a thread started on Twitter, and the answers are wide-ranging, from superhero horror flicks to laugh-out-loud comedies.

Not since The Wizard hyped up an entire generation for Super Mario Bros. 3 has a film about video games felt as naked a marketing ploy as Gran Turismo. Based on an improbable true story, the movie follows Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe), a 20-something Gran Turismo fanatic who wins a Nissan-sponsored contest to race professionally. Even more improbable (and this is technically a spoiler, but hell, it's also real life), he manages to hold his own in the racing world. The original story was already a dream marketing win for Nissan and Sony, but now the two companies can milk it once again to bolster the mythology of Gran Turismo. Don't call it a game – it's a driving simulator.

They’re aboard a helicopter wheeling above a racetrack, where Salter’s students in the GT Academy — a real-life program intended to turn players of Sony’s Gran Turismo games into actual racing drivers — are being put through their paces. The helicopter is an absurd bit of theater for the TV cameras, and Salter knows it. But he’s powerless to resist the marketing apparatus around him.

Sony Pictures has just released the second trailer for this upcoming flick, which tells the true story of aspiring driver Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe), whose expertise in the PlayStation racing sim earns him a spot on a real race track.
