Martin Scorsese’s compelling, righteously furious crime epic Killers of the Flower Moon is now available to stream at home on Apple TV Plus, and it’s well worth watching if you didn’t catch it in theaters. Starring Robert De Niro in diabolical uncle mode, Leonardo DiCaprio in tortured idiot mode, and a luminous, movie-stealing, award-winning Lily Gladstone, the film tells the incredible, appalling true story of the wholesale murder of members of the wealthy Osage tribe in 1920s Oklahoma. Based on David Grann’s nonfiction bestseller, Scorsese’s movie focuses on the marriage of Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and Osage heiress Mollie (Gladstone), and the machinations of De Niro’s cattle baron Bill Hale as he attempts to secure Mollie’s family’s oil rights. It’s a damning portrait of American complicity, greed, and erasure.
Seth MacFarlane's filthy teddy bear character Ted and Martin Scorsese's true-crime epic “The Killers of the Flower Moon” are some of the new television, music and movies headed to a device near you.
One of 2023’s biggest cinema trends was the way accomplished filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Greta Gerwig, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, and many more delivered some of the most creatively and commercially successful work of their careers. There was just something in the air this year, as one major artist after another took big swings that connected.
Greetings, Polygon readers!
Finally hitting Netflix this week, the road to Maestro has indeed been a long one. The biographical drama which tells the story of the great composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein was originally meant to be helmed by Martin Scorsese. However, choosing instead to focus on his gangster epic The Irishman, Scorsese stepped down and the project soon landed in the hands of none other than Steven Spielberg. Given that at the time he was working on his version of West Side Story, which features music by Bernstein, it just "made sense" as Spielberg’s producing partner Kristie Macosko Krieger tells GamesRadar+.
Welcome to the busiest moviegoing season of the year, when films in theaters are actually worth trekking out to see and everything hitting VOD and streaming is… the movies that came out a few months ago that are also super worth checking out. Ack!
In 2002, Infernal Affairs paired Hong Kong stars Tony Leung and Andy Lau for a critically acclaimed seedy cop thriller about two moles trying to find each other out. In 2006, Martin Scorsese remade the film as The Departed, winning the director his first (and thus far, only) Academy Award, and beginning a never-ending debate over which movie was better. (Both rule.)
Unlike Barbie, Ridley Scott doesn't think about dying.
With a directing career that spans more than five decades, it's hard to pick one definitive masterpiece to define Martin Scorsese's filmography. Fellow filmmaking giant Steven Spielberg, however, has had his say.

Winter is coming and Cardy, Matt, and Jesse are here to talk all things bread and soup. Not only that, but Matt has gone hands-on with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and is ready to tell you why it isn't just Far Cry in blue skin. Jesse has finished another movie adaptation in the shape of Robocop: Rogue City which sounds like a fun ol' time. And Cardy has seen Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese's new film which may just be the best of the year. All of that, plus a bit of time left for delightful little climbing game Jusant.
A recent video from director has drawn the ire of the film industry after the filmmaker took some playful jabs at legendary director.
In 2021, Quentin Tarantino defended his intention to make “just” 10 movies and retire, saying, “I know film history, and from here on in, directors do not get better.” That view of both artistry and film is squarely at odds with Martin Scorsese’s historic body of work. Scorsese had already made his 10th feature-length narrative film by 1986. He is now 80 years old, and his 27th, Killers of the Flower Moon, is a strong argument that directors are still capable of groundbreaking greatness late in life — and in Scorsese’s case, continued exhilarating experimentation and discovery.
Apple Inc. will redesign its TV app in a step toward consolidating the company's various video offerings later this year, according to people with knowledge of the matter, part of its efforts to become a bigger player in the streaming world.
Early on in Martin Scorsese’s historical drama Killers of the Flower Moon, there’s a quiet moment between Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and the woman he will eventually marry, Osage heiress Molly (Lily Gladstone). The absorbing way Scorsese stages the drama makes it clear that this relationship will not end well, but the soundtrack is strangely twinkling, as if this were the start of a grand romance. Then the lyrics kicked in:
Note: This essay on Martin Scorsese’s appearance in movies, both in cameos and small character roles, was originally published in 2021. It has been updated and republished in light of his on-screen role in his 2023 movie Killers of the Flower Moon.
At Polygon, a lot of us are fans of sitting down to a movie with as little up-front information as possible, for the feeling of discovery. But sometimes, it helps to know a few things going in, whether it’s an interesting fact about the movie’s history, or just knowing how many end-credit scenes to wait for. Here are four things we think you should know about Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon before watching.
When Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and screenwriter Eric Roth first set about adapting David Grann’s penetrating nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon, about the wholesale murder of the oil-rich Osage tribe in Oklahoma in the 1920s, the idea was that DiCaprio would play the hero. His original role: Tom White, a former Texas Ranger and investigator for the then-nascent FBI who brought some of those responsible to justice, including local cattle baron William King Hale and his nephew, Ernest Burkhart.
Martin Scorsese returns with a new movie for the first time since 2019's The Irishman with Killers of the Flower Moon. The film marks another collaboration between the director and actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, who play a powerful Oklahoma rancher and his nephew, Ernest. Rounding out the cast is Lily Gladstone, who plays Ernest's Osage wife and whose family is the victim of a string of brutal murders.
Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s latest film, is heading to theaters on Oct. 20 before its exclusive streaming debut on Apple TV Plus at a later, as of yet unspecified date. Hideo Kojima isn't shy about his love for movies. The creator behind games like Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding even wanted to make movies before becoming a game developer, and his games often pay homage to some of his favorites. Even Snake, the main character of the Metal Gear Franchise, is named after Escape from New York's protagonist, Snake Plissken. What’s it like to be trapped in a hell of your own making? For writer Alan Wake, that’s the story he’s trying to tell. And after watching a full 40-minute demo, played from the perspective of Wake himself, it certainly looks set to be a tale worth telling. Taking place in an area called The Dark Place, this lengthy slice of the story follows Alan as he makes his way through an oppressive and haunting replica of New York City riddled with danger, gunfights, and puzzles. It’s classic survival horror but with the distinct edge of developer Remedy - smart, engrossing, and consistently odd.

People online have gone and an created another fictional movie. No, I’m not talking about Martin Scorsese’ cult-hit Goncharov. I’m talking about the vibey 1980s horror-thriller movie, Zepotha.
Until morale improves, the John Wick franchise will continue to hand out beatings — this time in the ’70s. The first full trailer for the prequel miniseries The Continental: From the World of John Wick is appropriately groovy, but it feels less like the work of John Wick director Chad Stahelski, and more like something dreamed up by Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, working in Kill Bill/Jackie Brown mode.
In 2018, an interview with Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan went viral — possibly because it was the first time he’d ever appeared relatable. In that conversation, he said his children sometimes jokingly call him Reynolds Woodcock, after the aloof, reserved protagonist of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread. Though Nolan’s scripts often feature signature, repeated (and often mocked) tropes, including time manipulation, dead spouses, and protagonists who face complex moral decisions, he injects very little of his own personality into his movies. Characters like Leonardo DiCaprio’s troubled team leader in Inception and Robert Pattinson’s equally troubled handler in Tenet are clearly styled after Nolan himself. But viewers rarely come away from Nolan movies with a greater understanding of his worldview, at least compared to the way directors like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino put their personalities on screen in every movie they make.
