Whether we want to admit it or not, now that there has been a string of video game adaptation successes in both the movie and TV scape, there are going to be legions more made based on some of the most popular and best-selling franchises in the world. Why? Because since a certain film with Mario made a billion dollars, and the tale of Joel and Ellie was nominated for dozens of awards, people “up top” want to see how much they can bank on this. And that brings us to the Minecraft Movie, which is absolutely something that is being made right now.

Netflix’s new animated movie Thelma the Unicorn is full of soulful rock music, but one number stands out like a neon-colored sore thumb: “Here Comes the Cud.” And that’s deliberate. Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie designed “Here Comes the Cud” to be as disgustingly catchy and synthetic as possible. Looks like Jack Black just can't keep away from those videogame movie adaptations, because he's the latest star to be cast in the live action Minecraft movie.

Actor Jack Black has joined the cast of Warner Bros and Legendary's "Minecraft", a live-action movie based on the popular video game from the studio. Black joins "Aquaman" star Jason Momoa as well as actors Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks in the project, which will be directed by Jared Hess of ”Napoleon Dynamite” fame, reported entertainment news outlet Variety.

Jack Black will join the cast of the upcoming Minecraft movie, according to a new report over at Deadline. No plot details on the film are currently available, but the report suggests Black will play the role of Steve.

Jack Black has joined the cast of the in-development live-action Minecraft movie. Rumors about this casting popped up yesterday, January 2, with Deadline reporting that Black would play Steve (the Minecraft guy with the teal shirt and blue pants). Notably, Black starred as the villainous Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie last year, giving us the instant-classic «Peaches,» too.

Wednesday actor Emma Myers is all set to join Jason Momoa in the upcoming live-action Minecraft movie but, with filming just weeks away, everything else surrounding the production is surprisingly hush-hush.

The Minecraft movie is adding more stars to its lineup. Peacemaker star Danielle Brooks, according to Deadline, has been cast in the live-action adaptation in an unknown role, as well as Sebastian Eugene Hansen.

The popular and everlasting Minecraft has achieved something that no other video game has done: Mojang's sandbox exploration and building game is now the first video game in history to sell over 300 million copies.  Ahead of its 15th anniversary next year, developer Mojang announced in a blog post that Minecraft, which has steadily grown in massive popularity for over a decade, has sold over 300 million copies (digital and physical editions combined). The developers also shared new data about player activity, such as stats showing that an average of 15 million skeletons are slayed daily, and an average 6.7 million diamonds are found each day.
