Capcom has suggested that it could release more $70 games after Dragon’s Dogma 2, which is the Japanese publisher’s first title to carry the increased price point.

Today, CAPCOM announced that Street Fighter 6 has sold over three million units to date. This third million was much slower than the first two, though, as Street Fighter 6 managed that much in just one month from its June release.

Capcom's fantasy action-RPG Dragon's Dogma 2 will sell for $69.99 - $70, if you disregard the usual "deduct one cent to fool silly left-to-right readers into thinking it's significantly cheaper" gambit - when it releases in March 2024. If you're in the UK, the figure is currently £53.98 on Steam. It's the first time Capcom have sold the base edition of a game for $70 in the US of A, and follows comments this September from a Capcom executive that videogames are priced "too low" these days, based on how much games cost to make.

The games industry is slowly but surely shifting to premium AAA releases now costing $70 instead of the $60 that had been the industry-wide standard for so long, with the likes of EA, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Activision, and Take-Two Interactive having adopted the new pricing model. And though Capcom is yet to shift to that new pricing model, it seems it won’t be long before that changes.
