Bethesda has confirmed the native PS5 version of Fallout 4 will need to wait until 2024 as «a bit more time» is needed to get into shape. The expected news was shared on Twitter after no updates had been shared on the updated edition for over a year. Upon its official announcement in October of 2022, it was confirmed the PS5 version will have Creation Club content, a 4K mode, and bonus bug fixes.

One announcement that slipped through the cracks from The Game Awards last week is that The Outlast Trials is now officially releasing for PS5, PS4 next year. The multiplayer spin-off launches on 5th March 2024, and is available to pre-order now on the PS Store with base and Deluxe Editions on offer. It should come as little surprise, but the disappointing launch state of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 didn't stop it from being the best-selling game of November in the USA. New data from Circana confirms the FPS topped the charts last month and instantly become the second best-selling title of 2023, just behind Hogwarts Legacy. Interest in the latest entry made the overall Call of Duty series the second-most-played game on PS5 in November, though Fortnite did claim first place.

Naughty Dog has today shared the news its The Last of Us Multiplayer project has been officially cancelled. A post on the developer's official website states: «We’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to stop development on that game.»

Today is apparently Dragon Age Day, and BioWare is celebrating by confirming you'll need to wait until Summer 2024 for the proper reveal of its upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The reveal window was confirmed in a new video named Thedas Calls, which closes with: «Full reveal summer 2024.»

New Fallout 76 content available now is channelling the Las Vegas vibes of PS3 classic Fallout: New Vegas, with a new Expedition taking former vault dwellers to Atlantic City for some gambling and mob action. The free PS4 patch includes two new missions via a 27.3GB download as well as the new location and updates that streamline the experience for all new players. Now you're able to skip the game's opening entirely and start at level 20 with a new Perk Card loadout.

Capcom has announced the long-awaited PSVR2 mode for Resident Evil 4 will be available for free next week on 8th December 2023. You'll be able to play the entire main story from the first-person perspective using Sony's VR headset, and a free PSVR2 demo will go live on the PS Store on the same day for anyone to try out. PowerWash Simulator is one of the stars of this month's PS Plus Essential line-up, but before you start the surprisingly relaxing experience of scrubbing things clean, you might want to check out the PS Store. The work Belgian developer Larian Studios has put into getting the Xbox Series S version of Baldur's Gate 3 up to snuff will result in performance improvements for all the platforms the RPG is available on, including PS5. The upgrades will arrive as part of the game's fifth major patch, which is expected to go live this week — more details will be shared later today along with confirmation of new features.

The first teaser trailer for Amazon Prime's TV adaptation of Fallout was revealed over the weekend, sharing the firm's vision for Vault 33, the Los Angeles wasteland and its inhabitants, and the Brotherhood of Steel. Batman: Arkham Knight is being updated next month with the suit worn by Robert Pattinson in last year's film The Batman. Arriving on 15th December 2023, the suit will actually be available first in the new Nintendo Switch version of Batman: Arkham Trilogy, but will then be offered as a free download to PS4 players and PS5 owners using backwards compatibility.

Update: Despite the official wording from the official Level-5 livestream, the delay to DECAPOLICE may not be quite as significant as first thought. The game's official Twitter account now claims the PS5, PS4 title has only been pushed back to 2024 instead of «post-2024», as was stated during the showcase.

Cookie Cutter, a stylised 2D Metroidvania game «designed for mature players», has been announced and dated for PS5 all at once. The title launches on Sony's current-gen machine on 14th December 2023, and you can get a taste of what to expect in the trailer above.

Xbox Series X|S maker Microsoft has once again expressed a desire to release its membership service Game Pass on to PS5, PS4, allowing first-party titles like Starfield and Forza Motorsport to become available to a wider audience. Xbox CFO Tim Stuart made the comments during the Wells Fargo TMT Summit, stating it to be a «bit of a change of strategy».

The well-received PS5, PS4 tactics title Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is receiving one final free update today along with two paid DLC packs as developer Mimimi Games plans to close its doors. Each priced at $14.99, the expansions add new playable characters, missions, and areas to the game, extending the experience by «several hours». Both can be seen in the trailer above.

Update: Following the leaks overnight, Ubisoft has now confirmed Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is indeed in development. More news will be shared in early 2024, but the publisher is «dedicated to making it an experience that truly honors the legacy of the original». Ubisoft says the version that got out via its subscriptions service to the point where it was briefly playable was an early build that isn't «indicative of the final game».

Capcom has officially confirmed it plans to continue releasing remakes of older Resident Evil games after the success of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. At the PlayStation Partner Awards, Resident Evil 4 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi told Game Watch that the publisher would like to continue developing Resident Evil remakes.

And now you can breathe a sigh of relief: if the 2025 release window did not make it obvious enough, GTA 6 will be a current-gen-only game. It's not getting a PS4 version; the game is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. That also means it's not releasing on PC day and date with the console versions.

A bonus 12 Atari 2600 games will be added to PS5, PS4 compilation Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration in an update arriving on 5th December 2023. Developers at Destiny 2 studio Bungie are said to be fearful of a «total Sony takeover» following missed revenue targets, layoffs, and product delays, a new IGN report claims. According to sources speaking to the outlet, higher-ups within the studio have hinted the shared power it enjoys with Sony following last year's acquisition may be taken away if financial targets continue to be missed.

Given the growing significance of The Game Awards and the ties FromSoftware has to the show, there's potential for the debut Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC trailer appear in the show next week. Magic Design Studios has today announced its 2D rogue-like Have a Nice Death will be released on PS5, PS4 today for $24.99. The first hands on review of the PS5's new Pulse Explore earbuds had CNET waxing lyrical about the audio quality, but a new verdict from PC Mag has raised concerns surrounding the device's design and fit. In a 2.5/5 review, it's suggested the «big tabs that jut up from the earphones make it hard to comfortably place them in your ears». Furthermore, eartips provided in the box are supposedly so thin they can flip out into your ear during wear.

Yesterday, Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said Microsoft wants Xbox Game Pass on «every screen that can play games», including «what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo». One day later, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told Windows Central: «We have no plans to bring Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo. It's not in our plans.»

First announced for PS5, PS4 during Sony's PlayStation Showcase earlier this year, it's been confirmed the psychedelic side-scroller Ultros will release on 13th February 2024. As previously announced during Sony's recent State of Play livestream, Square Enix's online battler Foamstars is getting an open beta, and it's available now on PS5. You can play the Happy Bath Survival and Smash the Star modes from now until 11:59pm PDT on Sunday, with eight characters up for selection. Your progress won't carry over into the full version, and while there will be a PS4 edition available at launch, this open beta isn't available on Sony's last-gen system.

Fortnite developer Epic Games is set to lay off 870 employees as it seeks to lower costs, a Bloomberg report reveals. In a memo sent to workers earlier today, chief executive officer Tim Sweeney said the company had been spending a lot more money than it was earning for quite some time. He said: «I had long been optimistic that we could power through this transition without layoffs, but in retrospect I see this was unrealistic.»

The final content update for Sonic Frontiers is available now on PS5, PS4, and it's one of the most important of the lot, making Sonic the Hedgehog's side-kicks Amy, Knuckles, and Tails all playable. As part of an additional narrative timed before the final battle on Ouranos Island, the three characters search for Chaos Emeralds to help the blue blur.

An anniversary update will be available for Cuphead later today, but your PS4 version of the game won't be downloading it. StudioMDHR has dedicated its latest slice of content to the Xbox community — describing it as a «love letter» — since it was the first to play the game upon its original launch. Cuphead was ported to PS4 roughly three years later in July of 2020 but its DLC The Delicious Last Course arrived day and date with other platforms.

Hideki Kamiya has confirmed he will be leaving Japanese studio PlatinumGames on 12th October 2023. The director of classics like Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and Okami, Kamiya shared the news on Twitter and explained the decision was «based on my own beliefs and was by no means an easy decision to make». It sounds like Kamiya could stay in the gaming industry following his departure, though, as he says he'll «continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way».

Naughty Dog will celebrate The Last of Us Day tomorrow, but you shouldn't go into its livestream expecting any news on new games or TV shows. The PlayStation Studios developer has taken to Twitter to kill any excitement by confirming it'll be focusing on «art, merch, and more». The studio continues: «While we're honoring the series' 10-year legacy, we will not be discussing any future game or TV show projects.»

NIS America has announced it's remastering the Nintendo 3DS RPG The Legend of Legacy for PS5 and PS4, with a view to release the enhanced version early next year. Side-scrolling platformer The Last Case of Benedict Fox will be ported to PS5 as a Definitive Edition, it's been confirmed. First released for Xbox Series X|S and PC in April, this updated version sports combat and platforming improvements, better visuals and an updated UI, enhanced enemy AI, and further gameplay features. Limited Run Games has revealed it'll be putting out physical versions of both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on PS4, with pre-orders available soon. Persona 3 Portable will be treated to three different versions, ranging from the standalone game to a $199.999 priced S.E.E.S. Edition that bundles in a 1:1 replica of the Evoker weapon, an armband, trading cards, and much more. Pre-orders open via Limited Run Games this Friday and will be until 12th November.

Sony has unveiled a new promotion in the USA that allows anyone who purchases and then activates a new PS5 by 20th October 2023 to redeem a free PS5 game. Those who qualify will need to turn the console on and button over to the PS Store, where a banner will take you to a page listing the 12 PS5 titles you can pick from. Product pages on the PS Store have been given a refresh as Sony has implemented a new five-star rating system users can engage with. It's not entirely clear when this feature went live as it's only been spotted in the past 12 hours, but you can now attach a rating to the PS5, PS4 games you own.

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has shared praise for Sony's PS3 project PlayStation Home in newly revealed documents part of the court case concerning Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While talk surrounding the Metaverse has somewhat died down as of late, Ryan believes PlayStation Home was an early interpretation of the concept, and was even «10 to 15 years ahead of its time».

Sony has announced PlayStation boss Jim Ryan will be retiring from his role in March 2024. To help with the transition, Hiroki Totoki will assume the position Interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment from next month. «Mr. Totoki will work closely with Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and the management team of SIE to help define the next chapter of PlayStation’s future, including the succession of the SIE CEO role,» a press release states.

Gacha sensation Honkai: Star Rail already has more than one million PS5 players queuing up to play when it releases next month. HoYoverse has revealed the upcoming title has surpassed one million pre-registrations on Sony systems, meaning anyone who signs up will get every reward on offer once the game fully launches on 11th October 2023.

New fiscal results belonging to indie publisher Devolver Digital have revealed the company is beginning to reject deals from Sony and Microsoft to put titles on Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus. Building on reports of subscription fatigue where consumer spending is concerned, Devolver Digital claims it has turned down multiple proposals from platform holders as the offers «undervalued the titles' value and revenue opportunities in 2023 and 2024».

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has come away with the most viewed trailer of Sony's latest State of Play livestream, completely dwarfing the numbers Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has managed to record. At the time of writing, the PS5 game has got 2.5 million views on its new Expanded Marvel's New York trailer, which is considerably more than any other trailer included in the presentation combined on the PlayStation YouTube channel.

Square Enix has announced that those who played PS5, PS4 game Final Fantasy VII Remake will be treated to «special bonuses» when they boot up Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Tracked through your save data, this is being done because the publisher isn't carrying over levels or abilities. As such, the bonus items are just a «little something extra».

The only firmware update you'll see Sony actively promoting today is the PS5's new 23.02-08.00.00 patch, but the firm's older console, the PS4, hasn't been left to rot just yet. Almost half of the entire workforce at Ascendant Studios has been laid off as a result of poor sales for its magical FPS Immortals of Aveum. Speaking to Polygon, three employees at the developer said «nearly half of its staff» was let go on Thursday, with bad sales of the game cited as one reason why. Sources claimed around 40 people were laid off from a studio that had 80 to 100 employees.

The launch of upcoming free-to-play shooter XDefiant has been delayed after Ubisoft shared the title has failed to pass certification on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms. The game was expected to be releasing at the end of last month, but following this setback, a new release date depends on whether platform holders Sony and Microsoft give it a pass in the next two weeks. If they do, launch can be set for the end of September. If a day one update is required to fix any lingering issues, XDefiant will be out in early October.

Sony has today announced the full list of PS5, PS4, and Classic games coming to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium this month. A partial selection was leaked at the start of this week, but the complete lineup is significantly larger. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Dragon's Crown developer Vanillaware has announced its next game is a stunning tactical RPG that goes by the name of Unicorn Overlord. It's coming to PS5 and PS4 on 8th March 2024, and you can check out the announcement trailer above.

Gameloft has today launched the latest Disney Dreamlight Valley expansion on PS5 and PS4, arriving free of charge and themed around Beauty and the Beast. Finnish team Remedy has revealed its upcoming PS5 survival horror game Alan Wake 2 will be its longest yet, clocking in at more than 20 hours. Creative director Sam Lake shared the respective playtime in the latest episode of the Kinda Funny Games Daily show, revealing the studio has wanted to makes its games longer for some time. «So Control was our longest game to date, and Alan Wake 2 is going to be longer than that — 20 hours plus,» he said.

Sony has revealed its next State of Play livestream will take place this Thursday, 14th September 2023 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST. The showcase will focus on «updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles», which includes indie titles, third-party experiences, and upcoming PSVR2 hits. A run time wasn't announced in the post on the PlayStation Blog. Given the wording, it seems safe to say there won't be any PlayStation Studios games featured.

Sony has now confirmed upcoming PS5 console exclusive Helldivers 2 will be part of today's State of Play livestream. A new tweet from the platform holder says we'll see «a new slice of Helldivers 2 gameplay» alongside indie titles, third-party experiences, and PSVR2 games. The PS5, PC game has been rumoured for an October 2023 launch; this release date may be confirmed too during the presentation.

A fairly low-key affair for saying it was only the second general State of Play livestream of 2023, but there were a few announcements and reveals to take note of.

Having made a flurry of announcements during last night's State of Play livestream, Capcom has provided a deep dive into all the upcoming Resident Evil 4 content on the PlayStation Blog. The Ada Wong-focused DLC Separate Ways is the headliner, which brings back the optional campaign from the original game for $9.99. A free update for the Mercenaries mode arrives on the same day of 21st September 2023, and then the PSVR2 mode is still slated to launch this winter. Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PS5, and after bagging itself a Metacritic rating of 96 on PC, it's currently doing one point better on Sony's console. The PS5 version currently commands a 97 on the website, making it the highest-rated game on the system to date. The caveat, of course, is this is only based on nine reviews. However, given the widespread love for the RPG, we doubt the rating is going to drop very much.

Outright Games has revealed it's developing a sequel to the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie as a game for PC and consoles, launching next year. It will be set months after the events of the film and feature visuals inspired by the big-screen flick.

Indie RPG Sea of Stars has continued to sell well since developer Sabotage revealed it's shifted 100,000 copies, to the point where it's already beaten the studio's sales expectations for the entire year. The game has now sold over 250,000 units despite being available on PS Plus Extra and Xbox Game Pass. It'll be full price on PC and Nintendo Switch, or you could still opt to pay the £28.99 / $34.99 on PS5, PS4.

The Yakuza and Like a Dragon experiences are famed for including built-in side games that could probably exist on the PS Store all by themselves, and the upcoming Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name looks to be no different. Today SEGA has detailed what you can get up to off the main path, and it includes competing in the Coliseum, talking to some lovely ladies at the Cabaret Club, playing Pocket Circuit, and taking part in karaoke.

Hogwarts Legacy and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon have swapped positions with one another to hand the Harry Potter simulator a top spot in the latest UK physical sales charts, while FromSoftware's mech game slips to fifth. The only new entry this week is at least an interesting one: the Premium Edition Upgrade for Starfield. This is a code in a box that grants five days of early access to the Bethesda RPG as well as the first story expansion, and it managed to rank seventh last week.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture team The Chinese Room has been confirmed as the new studio behind the troubled Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, with an updated release window set for late 2024. It's unclear how much of the work original developer Hardsuit Labs put into the project will carry over into the final version, but you can catch a new trailer above.

Sony is primed and ready to deliver a new State of Play livestream in September, if new rumours are to be believed. Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb took to Twitter overnight to share he's heard «a State of Play is coming», and given Sony's recent track record of hosting events like the PlayStation Showcase in September, it seems like we're only a few weeks away from the company's next info dump.

Gacha games are leaking out of the PS5's ports and cables at the moment as it's confirmed DanMachi Battle Chronicle will join the likes of Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Project Mugen on the platform in the future.
