When Overwatch 2 Season 10 releases next month, players won't have to wait to play its newest hero, Venture. Rather than make its 40th hero available through the Battle Pass, Blizzard is planning to make Venture immediately available along with every other hero to date.
The update is one of several changes that Blizzard has planned for Season 10, which is expected to launch in mid-April, including changes to Mythic skins, earning coins, and core gameplay. In particular, it seeks to streamline how players gain access to Overwatch 2's content, with heroes being one of the key areas of focus.
Once Season 10 starts, the main barrier to entry will be the tutorial in which players unlock various Overwatch characters. After the original roster is unlocked, all Overwatch 2 characters will become available, including Venture. First announced during the Overwatch 2 panel at BlizzCon 2023, Venture is a DPS character capable of burrowing underground. They are touted as the game's first non-binary character.
As part of the update, Blizzard also announced that a new Mythic Shop will let players work toward "past and current seasonal Mythic hero skins" while building progress through the Premium Battle Pass.
"You get to decide how far into each Mythic skin you would like to build," the dev blog highlighting the changes explains. "So, for example, if you don't want to fully unlock all of a skin's color or model variations, you can spread your progression towards other Mythic hero skins."
Mythic Skins are highly-customizable skins initially introduced with the launch of Overwatch 2. Traditionally they've been unlockable by reaching tier 80 of a given season's battle pass. Under the new system, past Mythic Skins will be added to the shop, with seasonal Mythics available two seasons after they debut. Mythic Skins from Season 1 through 7 will be available in the shop when Season 10 launches next month.
Aside from the changes to heroes and Mythic Skins, Blizzard said that Overwatch 2 will be adding rank resets, the ability to track progress each game, and new rewards. It will also be possible to earn coins while progressing through the free and premium tracks of the Battle Pass, which Blizzard says will make them "easier and more consistent to earn." Blizzard will increase the number of coins players get for free from 540 to 600 coins per season.
Finally, Blizzard is planning to rework several maps, with Colosseo being revamped in Season 11, and Circuit Royal, Nunbani, and Havana to follow in later seasons.
Currently in Season 9, Overwatch 2 has received extensive updates since first releasing back in 2022. Overwatch 2 Season 10 is currently expected to launch April 16 at 12pm PT, with additional updates focusing on competitive
