The third of Nvidia’s Super GPUs to launch this month, the RTX 4080 Super is effectively a replacement for the existing RTX 4080 the company launched in 2022. The RTX 4080 Super brings 4K gaming to the market, with a drop in price to boot.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER & 4070 Ti SUPER GPUs launch in a few days but some buyers have got their cards earlier than everyone else.
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER is the only GPU within the SUPER trio that has officially been launched in retail. The next two cards will be launching in a few days with the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER hitting retail on the 24th of January and the RTX 4080 SUPER hitting retail on the 31st of January.
However, it looks like some gamers have got their hands on the purchases earlier than the embargo lifts on sales. A user on the PC Builder and Setups Community has shown that he managed to get his card, an ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER ROG STRIX, yesterday. The card appears to be legit but there's no serial number on the packaging which might indicate that someone who sold this card may not have acquired it legally. The user was asking for the GPU drivers but it looks like he will have to wait till the 31st for that. The current drivers only offer support for NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPUs.
The second such case was reported on the NVIDIA subreddit where a buyer obtained a PNY GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (16 GB) GPU ahead of its launch just two days away from now. The graphics card can be seen in mint condition with its plastic wrapping covering the shroud and it looks ready to be deployed in his gaming PC. He even posted screenshots of the GPU running a range of benchmarks (Cinebench, VRAY) but that's about it as far as what you can do without the drivers.
However, both cases show that some retailers or individuals aren't following NVIDIA's embargo guidelines set for the upcoming RTX 40 SUPER GPUs. It should be made clear that some stores might overcharge for letting users have access to these graphics cards ahead of everyone else but they are pretty much useless without the proper driver support. For those who are looking forward to these cards, they will be out soon and we will likely have some sort of performance evaluation & review ready when the time is right for publishing.

Nvidia’s latest super GPUs have finally hit shelves, bringing more value to the existing 40-series GPU lineup with the RTX 4070 Super and 4070 Ti Super (the RTX 4080 Super is following on Jan. 31). These new GPUs feature increased CUDA cores and clock speeds with the same amount of VRAM and power requirements as before. That said, the gen-to-gen improvements may not be impressive if you’ve been using any of the 2023’s RTX 40-series cards; someone who’s been using an RTX 30-series card or older for the past few years should certainly notice the difference.
