TikTok personality Malik Ambersley, who has become well known in recent months for his Spider-Man’s Miles Morales NPC livestreams, was robbed on camera at the end of April. The NPC livestream trend grew in popularity mainly thanks to PinkyDoll, who pretends to be a video game NPC reacting to gifts sent to her by TikTok viewers. Since her whirlwind debut, PinkyDoll, real name Fedha Sinon, has amassed over 1.7 million followers on the social media platform and at one point earned upwards of $3,000 per stream.
Other streamers, like Cherry Crush and Satoyu727, experienced similar success, inspiring others to join in the trend. One such TikTok creator was Malik, who livestreams as the popular title character from Spider-Man: Miles Morales by Insomniac Games. His new gig, which mostly entails hanging out in various locations and thanking viewers as they send him gifts like roses, ice cream, and galaxies, is likely more fulfilling than his previous job as a Domino’s delivery driver.
However, it’s not all roses for NPC Tiktok personalities, as a recently surfaced clip reveals. At the end of April, Malik was livestreaming as Spider-Man's Miles Morales when a passerby approached and began joking with him and the viewers. The atmosphere was friendly, and Malik seemed to be having a good time. He was laughing with the unexpected visitor and even broke character momentarily to pose for a selfie with him. However, while the TikToker left his camera unattended to interact with the passerby, the video feed momentarily froze as the camera suddenly moved.
Several seconds later, the video feed resumed, with Malik laughing but noticeably upset as he revealed that somebody had stolen his phone. “That’s hilarious, that’s hilarious,” the streamer repeated. Many people might assume that the passerby was part of the robbery, serving as a distraction. However, after the camera was stolen, the stranger was still present. He insisted that he was not involved and apologized for distracting Malik. The livestream continued, and after asserting that the robbers didn’t get much, the Miles Morales NPC TikToker seemed unfazed by the events.
However, the next day, Malik released a TikTok video titled “no words” in which he was visibly upset and even near tears at the end. He expressed that it seemed like it was “his own people” who didn’t support him. “Literally I cannot do this s**t no more, bro,” the streamer said, explaining how he worked hard to provide good content and be one of the best creators on social media. However, Malik said, people would come and mess with him every time he begins livestreaming. He also received private messages from people claiming to be the thieves, one of which proved to be legit and requested money to

In a narrow hallway that divides the dance floor and the bathrooms at a local club, I saw some girls snapping photos. Instead of an iPhone, one of them held a retro digital camera above the group’s heads at an angle. The flash went off and I squeezed past them as they looked at the screen and giggled. It’s a small moment, but it’s also part of a much larger consumer trend. Now — thanks to TikTok — ’90s- and 2000s-era handheld digital cameras are making a massive comeback, and I can say it’s one of the trends that’s actually well worth the hype.
One of the most underrated features of PlayStation Plus Premium is the game trials that it offers. Although Sony does not put its AAA games on the service the day they release, it and several other third-party publishers offer up free demos that essentially give players full access to the game for a limited period of time. It’s a great way to test a new game before you buy and it also gives you an excuse to try out a variety of different games this weekend without making the time commitment to beat them all. I looked through the full list of game trials that PlayStation Plus Premium offers and pinpointed three of the demos that are most worth your time.
While the generative AI technology for NPCs (non-player characters) demonstrated at GDC 2024 by Inworld is very exciting for its potential applications in games, one of the main drawbacks is the cost associated with it. The simulation currently has to run on Inworld's servers, which comes at a price.
The weekend is here, so you probably want to sit back and relax by playing some video games. If you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra on PS4 or PS5, then there are tons of fantastic titles to choose from in the subscription service’s vast game catalog. It’s a lot to sift through, so I’ve handpicked three titles I think you should check out if you haven’t played them already.
Some Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans have started pointing out that Peter Parker is missing as an AI companion in combat when the player is controlling Miles Morales. Spider-Man 2 gives gamers two crime-fighting Spider-heroes for the price of one, with Peter returning from the first game and Miles now a fully-fledged web-slinger following his starring role in the 2020 spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
A Skyrim streamer online has developed an awesome mod that allows their Twitch chat to speak in place of NPCs, with hilarious results. While the Skyrim modding scene is among the most active in any game, this particular creation is some of the most unique work to emerge in a long time.
Sprinkled into TikTok’s endless feed of videos, you can find all sorts of content related to video games. You can see lore analysis videos, cool tips and tricks, cosplay, and, if you’re lucky, thirsty edits of characters like Leon Kennedy. The platform has become a place where people can learn about the games they love and discover new ones. Some games, like The Wandering Village, have specifically flourished thanks to TikTok and have found millions of viewers on the app. But now, that could all go away.
Now Starfield’s May update is out in the wild in beta form on Steam, players are getting to grips with all the new features, including the detailed maps, ship interior customization, and more. But there’s one change that flew under the radar when it was announced but is now picking up plaudits: the ability to toggle the default dialogue camera off.
Movie theaters, and the studios that provide their content, have been clawing their way out of a financial crater ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began. After Avengers: Endgame, the live-action Lion King, and Todd Phillips’ Joker helped fuel record-breaking box-office returns in 2019, the pandemic-era lockdowns froze theaters in their tracks, and the subsequent thaw has been slow and difficult for every industry that touches cinema.
An Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim streamer created a mod which let his Twitch chat control what the game's NPCs said in real time, with expectedly hilarious and horrifying results.
A Fallout 4 fan discovered a silly glitch involving an NPC meeting a rather untimely fate while playing through the game's pre-war introductory sequence. The popular Bethesda RPG is somewhat infamous for being fairly buggy like most of the developer's other games, and although these bugs can be occasionally infuriating, some of them can be pretty funny. The glitch that this particular Fallout 4 player experienced is definitely more so on the humorous side rather than the game-breaking one, and it's quite the sight to behold.
@RogerRoger No problem. I played Avengers when it was on PS Now and then later picked up the PS5 version 2nd hand to finish off the story. It was ok. I liked the story arc of the main antagonist and protagonist, but the missions get quite repetitive late on in the game. Out of all the extra characters I only played with Kate Bishop, I think her name was. Who was surprisingly fun to play as, but I was burnt out by the game by then so didn't finish her story.
