A Fallout 4 fan discovered a silly glitch involving an NPC meeting a rather untimely fate while playing through the game's pre-war introductory sequence. The popular Bethesda RPG is somewhat infamous for being fairly buggy like most of the developer's other games, and although these bugs can be occasionally infuriating, some of them can be pretty funny. The glitch that this particular Fallout 4 player experienced is definitely more so on the humorous side rather than the game-breaking one, and it's quite the sight to behold.
Thanks to the immense success of Amazon's Fallout TV show, the Fallout franchise as a whole has been rising in popularity lately. With the live-action adaptation capturing the attention of mainstream audiences around the globe, many gamers have been flocking to the Fallout games to get an extra whiff of the distinct, retro-futuristic world that only this post-apocalyptic series can provide. The fourth mainline installment of Bethesda's beloved franchise, in particular, has been experiencing the best of this resurgence, with Fallout 4 recently topping European sales charts almost nine years after its original release. Of course, with this increased popularity comes more fans, and with more fans comes more funny discoveries, namely when it comes to bugs and glitches. One of the latest of these discoveries to be shared on social media, though, is especially comical, to say the least.
On the r/Fallout subreddit, Reddit user RubberChicken36 shared a brief clip of a nuclear bomb dropping during one of the cutscenes from the pre-war opening segment of Fallout 4. In the short video, the player character, his wife, and some NPCs are seen riding an elevator down to Vault 111 as they narrowly escape the massive shockwaves from the earth-shattering explosion. Unfortunately, though, Fallout 4 glitches out, and one of the NPCs that's supposed to be heading down the elevator alongside the player gets stuck outside instead. The doors below the character close almost immediately afterward, making her as good as dead.
As goofy of a glitch as this is, this is by no means the only strange bug that players have recently foundin Bethesda's hit RPG. One Fallout 4 player, for instance, found a hilarious glitch in which an NPC was somehow swimming through the streets of the Commonwealth. Meanwhile, another gamer stumbled upon a bug that turned the popular synth companion Nick Valentine into a Jet addict for some reason. Though bugs and glitches typically hamper the quality of a game's experience, sometimes bizarre glitches like these can make playing titles like Fallout 4 a little bit more entertaining.
It's not all good news when it comes to Fallout, though, as the recently-released next-gen update for F

Sony recently added a free trial for one of the most controversial games of 2024 to PlayStation Plus Premium, meaning members of the service can give Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League a shot without having to spend a single extra penny. Though some may have preferred a more well-received game to be added instead, trials like these allow PlayStation Plus players to test out divisive games and make judgments for themselves on titles they may not have touched otherwise.
Now that the belated “next-gen” Fallout 4 update has finally arrived (nearly four years into said generation), Bethesda has at last offered up and enhanced way to play on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. However, the bar was already set fairly high by the excellent Xbox Backward Compatibility programme, of which Fallout 4 was an early beneficiary: thanks to the Xbox One X 4K patch and then the FPS boost, we already had the choice of whether to run in high frame rate or resolution modes (not both) on Xbox Series X and Series S. At least, that’s the idea. Currently it’s a bit broken on Xbox, but we can expect it to run as well as the PlayStation 5 version soon, and the improvements there are welcome.
The PS5 version of Fallout 4 should now be available to all PS Plus members no matter how you first claimed the game, as Bethesda has confirmed the edition provided by the now defunct PS Plus Collection will offer the free upgrade. There were some initial issues surrounding PS Plus Extra users gaining access, which were the first to be resolved, and now it won't block those who redeemed the RPG through the PS Plus Collection either.

Fallout has been the watercooler TV show this month, an impressive feat for a video game adaptation. Although Bethesda doesn’t have any new Fallout games to release alongside it, the Amazon Prime series has reinvigorated interest in Fallout, with all its titles seeing notable player count increases. For now, we’ll have to be content with a Fallout 4 current-gen upgrade, but I’ll admit that my mind is drifting to thinking about Fallout 5.
Fallout 4 fans are very disappointed with the recently released next-gen update and some of its features, like the lackluster addition of «ultrawide» support. Despite being delayed for a long period of time, the free next-gen patch for Fallout 4 has no shortage of issues on all platforms. What should have been an easy cause for celebration among fans of the 2015 RPG has instead turned into a point of frustration and criticism towards Bethesda's handling of this update within the Fallout community.
