Fallout 4 fans are very disappointed with the recently released next-gen update and some of its features, like the lackluster addition of «ultrawide» support. Despite being delayed for a long period of time, the free next-gen patch for Fallout 4 has no shortage of issues on all platforms. What should have been an easy cause for celebration among fans of the 2015 RPG has instead turned into a point of frustration and criticism towards Bethesda's handling of this update within the Fallout community.
The Fallout franchise has had somewhat of a resurgence in recent weeks, thanks in no small part to the massive success of Amazon's critically acclaimed live-action Fallout TV show. Nearly every game in the Fallout series has gotten a big player boost because of it on platforms like Steam. To coincide with the release of Amazon's Fallout show, Bethesda finally unveiled a release date for the next-gen update for Fallout 4 that it announced back in 2022. Unfortunately, though, a lot of the excitement surrounding this patch has been muted thanks to a number of issues plaguing the additions in this update, with this latest problem being particularly egregious.
Fans have discovered that the so-called 'ultrawide' support added to the PC version of Fallout 4 in the next-gen update has one major problem: all the UI elements are stretched to accommodate the resolution of 21:9 and 32:9 monitors. This gives the game an ugly appearance, even on the best ultrawide gaming monitors, and makes the menus look quite rough. To make matters even worse, Fallout 4 also fails to recognize the native resolution of monitors with ultrawide resolutions if Windows display scaling settings are set to anything other than 100%, which makes this poorly implemented feature all the more frustrating.
To solve this glaring issue, fans playing the Steam version of the game on a 21:9 monitor are using an old community-made mod named TRUBY9 ULTRAWIDE that adjusts the size of UI elements to properly fit the resolution as intended. Even though theFallout 4 next-gen update has caused mod compatibility issues across the board, as is typically the case when Bethesda updates its games, this ultrawide mod in particular still works perfectly fine. As such, it's a must for anyone looking to play Fallout 4 on a 21:9 monitor for the time being until Bethesda fixes this issue itself.
The lack of proper ultrawide support is by no means the only issue with the Fallout 4 next-gen update, as fans pointed out a number of glaring problems with the patch. Not only is the game not working as well as it used to on Steam Deck, but Fallout 4's new quality mode also isn't working on Xbox. In addition, PlayStation owners who obtained Fallout 4 through the PS Plus

Sony recently added a free trial for one of the most controversial games of 2024 to PlayStation Plus Premium, meaning members of the service can give Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League a shot without having to spend a single extra penny. Though some may have preferred a more well-received game to be added instead, trials like these allow PlayStation Plus players to test out divisive games and make judgments for themselves on titles they may not have touched otherwise.

A Fallout 4 fan discovered a silly glitch involving an NPC meeting a rather untimely fate while playing through the game's pre-war introductory sequence. The popular Bethesda RPG is somewhat infamous for being fairly buggy like most of the developer's other games, and although these bugs can be occasionally infuriating, some of them can be pretty funny. The glitch that this particular Fallout 4 player experienced is definitely more so on the humorous side rather than the game-breaking one, and it's quite the sight to behold.
