Nightingale: The Final Preview

Sweet liberty! One of my favorite PS4-era shooters is back with a whole new perspective and it’s up to me and my friends to defend Super Earth in glorious co-op! After going hands-on with Helldivers 2 for three hours, I’m sold on the bold pivot from the original’s top-down view to the sequel’s new third-person perspective, the appetizing roster of deadly gadgets, and the outrageous comedic tone that expertly channels the low-budget action film vibes that pair perfectly with the developer’s live-service ambitions. I’m a bit concerned at the moment that it won’t have enough content to go the distance long term, with only two enemy factions (so far as we know), procedurally generated levels that can feel a bit one-note, and no real live-service roadmap at launch, but with such a strong, effortlessly fun foundation, it’s definitely off to good start. With all the over-the-top gore and patriotic pageantry of Starship Troopers, Helldivers 2 is the kind of wonderfully silly shooter that me and my friends could easily lose many Friday nights to.

In a world where we're being bombarded by constant hype about AI, getting to mow down some chrome-plated baddies is kind of cathartic. Playing through the first several missions of Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, I found myself leading a ragtag band of human survivors trying to evade hostile machines in a slightly clunky but overall competent squad-based RTS. And there are some interesting ideas glimmering in the gaps beneath its synthetic flesh.

Some Destiny 2 players are hoping that Bungie will add three armor sets that have long existed in the franchise but are not obtainable when The Final Shape launches. With every new season of Destiny 2, Bungie has added new armor sets to the first-person shooter to the point where the game has a massive collection for players to choose from. Whether it is Strikes, Crucible, Iron Banner, or raids, almost every activity in the game has an armor set that players can chase after.

A live-action TV series based on Final Fantasy 14 is no longer happening. The project is now dead, according to Dinesh Shamdasani, the co-founder of Hivemind, one of the production companies involved.

It’s a monster that’s far too strong for my party to handle, but we fight and claw and hold our ground until we finally get it to retreat. I breathe a sigh of relief, then set up at the nearby camp and sleep till nightfall. That sleep is interrupted by the same Griffin, back for revenge. That fight somehow boils over into another battle with a Wight, who proceeds to beat me within an inch of my life before I finally take him out, just as the sun rises, after an epic 20-minute battle.

Despite reaching massive numbers during its debut, The Finals player count has dropped dramatically since peaking in December. Days after the free-to-play first-person shooter was shadow dropped at The Game Awards 2023, The Finals was outdoing Call of Duty on Steam. However, it appears as though The Finals has lost some of its allure, as players on Steam have either flocked to other titles in recent weeks or simply walked away.

Following Update 1.5.0 for THE FINALS and the limited-time addition of Solo Bank It!, Embark Studios has released Update 1.5.5. It adds new items to the store while also provide balance changes to several gadgets and weapons. The invulnerability period after reviving has also gone from 1.5 seconds to 0.75 seconds. The same also applies to revives with the Defibrillators.

The previously announced live-action Final Fantasy 14 TV series is now "dead," according to its studio's co-founder. 

Embark Studios releases update 1.5.5 for The Finals, introducing a bunch of nerfs for popular weapons and gear including the Defibrulator, while also making important tweaks to Crossplay and Matchmaking services. Since the official launch of The Finals during The Game Awards 2023, Embark has continued to tweak and update the experience for the growing number of players.

The Finals update 1.5.5 has just dropped, and it's focused on bringing the powerful Medium class closer in line with its Light and Heavy companions.
