Mortal Kombat 1 fans can expect more story content in the future for the game, as creative director Ed Boon has confirmed new DLC is on the way for the fighting game. Similar to Mortal Kombat 11's Aftermath expansion, Boon said that this DLC will add more the game's narrative and will be followed by a «big surprise» afterward.
«Just like we did with Mortal Kombat 11, we're going to release a second part with more story and we have a big surprise after that,» Boon said at the CCXP23 event in Brazil (via IGN).

Now Playing: Mortal Kombat 1 Video Review
Mortal Kombat 11's Aftermath was a substantial expansion for the game, full of new characters, arenas, and a campaign that had long-lasting ramifications for the franchise. While the next chapter in the New Era timeline of Mortal Kombat 1 is currently locked up tighter than Queen Sindel's miracle haircare products, several fascinating threads could be explored in an expansion. Sub-Zero's rise to power has him focused on the cybernetic evolution of the Lin Kuei, Shao Kahn is busy stirring up a revolution in Outworld, and Shang Tsung is busy learning some new tricks in his current exile.
There's still plenty of room for the expansion to go in a wilder direction, especially after the campaign ended with an expansion of the Mortal Kombat universe. Attack of the Ninja Mimes, perhaps?
Right now, Mortal Kombat 1 is steadily introducing new DLC characters to its roster. Invincible's dad-of-the-year, Omni-Man, recently touched down in the game and Quan Chi will be added on December 14. After the nefarious sorcerer arrives, the next guest character will be John Cena's Peacemaker, followed by Homelander, Ermac, and Takahashi Takeda.

Mortal Kombat 1's addition of Quan Chi seemingly confirms that DLC characters won't be getting any additional skins, as was the case for Omni-Man when he launched.
Like previous entries in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 is rolling out plenty of DLC fighters, with the game’s first “Kombat Pack” including Omni-Man from Invincible, Quan Chi, Peacemaker from Suicide Squad, Ermac, Homelander from The Boys, and Takahashi Takeda.

Mortal Kombat 1 sees the arrival of Quan-Chi later this month, but in the meantime, Invasions Season 3 is now available for all players. Live until February 13th, 2024, Season of the Cryomancer sees an alternate universe Sub-Zero freezing everything in a path for conquest. Check it out below.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be getting cross-play support in February 2024, NetherRealm Studios has confirmed.
Mortal Kombat 1 already has some of the best Fatalities in the series, but it just got a whole lot better thanks to Quan Chi's second grisly finishing move.
Quan-Chi, cross-play, and more this winter.
Quan Chi, the cruel Netherrealm sorcerer and one half of Mortal Kombat’s famous deadly alliance, is now part of the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. He’s available as part of the fighting game’s first Kombat Pack DLC, and is the second post-launch character to join MK1, following Omni-Man.
Mortal Kombat fans have enjoyed the latest installment for a few months. Mortal Kombat 1 launched earlier in September of this year. However, fans who wanted to dive into the game and face friends on other platforms were left out of luck. Going into the launch, we knew that Mortal Kombat 1 wouldn’t feature cross-play support. However, it wasn’t something that was off the table. NetherRealm Studios was working to bring this feature out into the game, and now we have a launch window available.
During a recent livestream, developer NetherRealm Studios revealed that it is working on releasing cross-play multiplayer for Mortal Kombat 1 in the coming months. While the studio was unable to develop the feature in time for the game’s launch back in September, it has stated that the feature will be coming to the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Mortal Kombat 1 in February.
Mortal Kombat 1 launched back in September and became one of our favorite games of the year – read why in Game Informer's Mortal Kombat 1 review here. Since its release, developer NetherRealm Studios has released additional characters, like Invincible's Omni-Man, while teasing other new fighters like Quan Chi and DC's Peacemaker. Now, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has teased even more new content on the way.
