If you’re still exploring the vast reaches of Starfield and are somehow hungry for more, you’re in luck. An “End of the Year Update” dropped by Bethesda outlined some of what’s to come in 2024.
Likely the biggest update to come for Starfield is an official repository of player-made game mods called Creations, plus an official exporter and a new Creation Kit. Bethesda games are well-known for being modder havens, though the development team has attempted to round some of that up through official channels in Skyrim (which also has a repository called Creations).
What’s more to come is a new expansion called Shattered Space . There’s not many specifics, but the blurb on the update promises “new story content, new locations, new gear, and much more.”
There’ll also be more sandbox-like options, letting players not just customize difficulty, but also many options and features. “These will allow you to easily customize carry capacity, cargo access distance, ship damage, vendor credits, how you suffer afflictions, new survival mechanics, and more,” the blog explains.
For those who like stats and facts, the blog also includes a sizable infographic of gameplay stats about Starfield’s massive playerbase. Some of the standout ones are that there are 13 million players averaging 40 hours each; the most used ability is “Sense Star Stuff;” and that over 1.6 million players are “Starborn,” with over 5.1 million “crossings of The Unity” to start a New Game+.
Starfield came out to high-praise and tough-love reviews both, with most praising the scope and scale but many criticizing certain points of execution, like boring worlds and some mundane gameplay aspects. Our own team found it more than enjoyable enough to explore for a long while, though one major modder called it “boring” and “bland” enough to quit contributing work. Starfield is available on the Xbox Series X/S and PC, plus in the Xbox Games Pass.

The name of MachineGames and Bethesda’s game may have been revealed ahead of its announcement next week. A couple of days ago, Lucasfilm registered several domain names that center around the possible game title “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” and this ties in with previous trademarks.
On January 18th, the Xbox Developer Direct will offer updates on games from some of the studios the behemoth have swallowed over the past several years. Most excitingly, that'll include an update from MachineGames on their in-development Indiana Jones game.
At the end of 2023, we saw best movies of the year lists from almost anyone with a Letterboxd account, but one movie lover is a little late to the game in posting their favorites. Video game creator Hideo Kojima, and his picks are a little interesting, to say the least.
