Mortal Kombat 1 already has some of the best Fatalities in the series, but it just got a whole lot better thanks to Quan Chi's second grisly finishing move.
Although Mortal Kombat 1 might have had its fair share of backlash when it launched, the one thing that almost all fans agreed on was that it has some of the series' most violent and gory Fatalities, something I can attest to considering I took the time to rate them all out of ten and only found a handful of weaker ones. Yes, General Shao, I'm talking about you.
The collection of Fatalities has only gotten better with the release of new DLC characters, with Omni-Man having two great references to Invincible and the controversial seasonal Fatalities being truly disgusting, but things have gotten even more grisly thanks to Quan Chi. We already knew his first Fatality, which has him splitting an opponent into pieces with glass, was grim after it was shown in his gameplay trailer, but his second is even worse.
Over on Twitter, Mortal Kombat fan TQT1995 shared a video of the second Fatality in action (which no one seems to know the name of yet since it takes so long to officially earn from his character progression) and it is one of the character's best. In the finisher, Quan Chi possesses his opponent and then forces them to tear their own face and jaw off, snap their neck, and then somehow decapitate themselves.
If Quan Chi was part of the game when I did that initial Fatality ranking, his first Fatality would get an 8 and his second would get a perfect score.
It's a very classic finisher for Quan Chi and has him doing what you'd expect, but that's not always a bad thing. In fact, Mortal Kombat fans seem pretty happy about this outcome, as they've started sending a lot of love its way over on the Mortal Kombat subreddit. One Redditor commented, "Now THAT'S a Quan Chi fatality", while another said, "They cooked with this one".
There are some fans who wish that Quan Chi used the kraken that is now part of his main moveset, but most Mortal Kombat fans agree that this is one of the sorcerer's all-time best Fataltiies. I'd go as far as saying that it's one of Mortal Kombat 1's best and most gruesome as well.
