These days, fighting games live and die based on their online playerbase, and yet, Mortal Kombat 1 did not launch with crossplay support. Thankfully, that will change relatively soon though, as NetherRealm Studios announced in a recent livestream that crossplay between PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 will be coming in early 2024 (perhaps unsurprisingly, the ill-fated Switch version is left out).
"Crossplay is coming in February between PS5, Xbox, and PC. We're very excited about that. We are also adding a WiFi filter, which means, like previous games, you will now be able to decline matches based on connection [type].”
While it remains questionable that Mortal Kombat 1 didn’t launch with crossplay in this day and age, it’s good to hear the feature is coming soon. In the meantime, players who have access to the Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack, can play Quan Chi today (he can be purchased a la carte next week). The first MK1 Kombat Pack includes Omni Man from Invincible (already released), Quan Chi, Peacemaker from Suicide Squad, Ermac, Homelander from The Boys, and Takahashi Takeda. Kameo fighters include Tremor, Mavado, Janet Cage, Ferra, and Khameleon. The Kombat Pack will set you back $40 and is also included in the MK1’s $110 Premium Edition. You can check out a gruesome trailer for Quan Chi, below.
Haven’t been keeping up with MK1? I found it to be a fun, if somewhat light on content, experience in my full review…
“Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the franchise’s most bloody-entertaining entries to date, offering up refined action, smartly revamped fighters, and a story mode that delivers a surprisingly-coherent plot and plenty of blockbuster thrills. A lack of compelling modes and meaningful character customization does hurt, but Mortal Kombat 1 should be a heart-ripping hit with fans even if the overall package is slightly anemic.”
Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch. As mentioned, Quan Chi is available today and crossplay arrives sometime in February of 2024.

Mortal Kombat 1's addition of Quan Chi seemingly confirms that DLC characters won't be getting any additional skins, as was the case for Omni-Man when he launched.
Like previous entries in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 is rolling out plenty of DLC fighters, with the game’s first “Kombat Pack” including Omni-Man from Invincible, Quan Chi, Peacemaker from Suicide Squad, Ermac, Homelander from The Boys, and Takahashi Takeda.

Mortal Kombat 1 already has some of the best Fatalities in the series, but it just got a whole lot better thanks to Quan Chi's second grisly finishing move.
Quan-Chi, cross-play, and more this winter.
Quan Chi, the cruel Netherrealm sorcerer and one half of Mortal Kombat’s famous deadly alliance, is now part of the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. He’s available as part of the fighting game’s first Kombat Pack DLC, and is the second post-launch character to join MK1, following Omni-Man.
