Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Have Fixed Johnny Cage's Jean-Claude Van Damme Skin

Mortal Kombat 1 fans aren't too impressed with Johnny Cage's unique Jean-Claude Van Damme skin and have already made edits to it that make him more closely resemble the actor.
More than 31 years ago, Ed Boon and John Tobias set out to make a game with legendary martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme, one that didn't end up happening due to scheduling conflicts. That might seem sad, but it led to the creation of the first Mortal Kombat and the start of one of the fighting genre's most popular series. The spirit of Van Damme lived on in Mortal Kombat through one of its most popular characters, Hollywood actor Johnny Cage, who was very clearly a homage to the star of Bloodsport.

Now, 30 years later, things have come full circle in Mortal Kombat 1, which features a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage as part of the premium edition of the game. Not only does the skin change Johnny's clothes to his Mortal Kombat 1 look, but it also swaps his face and voice for Jean-Claude Van Damme.
At least... it's supposed to. NetherRealm gave us our first proper look at the skin through a new trailer that released earlier this week, but some fans aren't too happy about the final product, claiming that it doesn't actually resemble Van Damme all that much and actually looks a little weird for some reason.
Although I was initially a little confused about the amount of hate that's being given to the skin right now, after looking at some comparison photos, it suddenly becomes a bit clearer that the current Jean-Claude skin is a little off and doesn't quite look like the actor. The problem seems to lie with some of the facial expressions, which look a little weird in motion and look like they're working off of the standard Johnny Cage skin.
Not all fans are unhappy with the skin, but it seems like the majority are. The skin seems to have bothered some players enough that they've actually worked to fix it, creating fan edits that make Jean-Claude look more like himself. Perhaps the best fan edit was created by Jake Shaw and originally posted on a Facebook Mortal Kombat group before being shared by Twitter user JustMKollum.
The fan edit changes pretty much every aspect of the MK Jean-Claude skin's face, including the size of his nose, his mouth, his eyebrows, and his eyes. Even if you're fine with the Jean-Claude skin as it is in Mortal Kombat 1, it's hard to argue that this edit doesn't resemble the actor a lot more and looks like a better skin in general.

I've loved the recent Mortal Kombat games, but if there's one thing they have not been good at, it's celebrity cameos. From Ronda Rousey as Sonya, to the Dimitri Vegas skin for Sub-Zero, to most recently Megan Fox as Nitara, more often than not the appearance of a famous face in these games means that you're about to be subjected to voice-acting more grisly than the fatalities. Mortal Kombat 1 Won't Have Cross-Play At Launch
It's pretty much expected nowadays for the majority of the big fighting games to have some kind of cross-play support, what with them being primarily multiplayer focused experiences. Street Fighter 6 had crossplay at launch, as will Tekken 8 when that releases next year, but it seems like Mortal Kombat 1 fans will have to wait a little bit before they can go a few rounds with someone on a different platform.
