Mortal Kombat 1 fans are extremely disappointed with the game's monetization, that much is undeniable. After getting angry at paid seasonal fatalities, overpriced highly-requested skins, and the premium store's rotation system, fans have now turned their anger towards the voice announcer pack for Omni-Man, with many just realizing the item is a separate purchase and isn't included for those that purchased the first Kombat Pack.
This issue was brought up by Reddit user South_Bathroom on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, who complained that items such as voice announcer packs should be included for free as part of the full Kombat Pack, or as part of character Battle Passes. This comment drew forward many like-minded individuals, as well as some that thought the item was free to begin with, fueling a new wave of anger over the game and calling the stunt "DLC for your DLC".
If they were going to include characters as announcers, every character should have been included. And they should have unlocked from character mastery, not your wallet.
There are also some fans that believe this is a deliberate tactic by NetherRealm to trick people into buying something they don't want. As explained by another Reddit user called GrimmTrixx, people have seemingly been tricked into purchasing the Omni-Man voice announcer pack thinking it was the character himself. Omni-Man's voice announcer pack costs a hefty $10, while the character himself only costs $8, and many have reasonably assumed the more expensive option was the character instead.
This has led many to call the tactic an example of "scummy design", as they've also accused NetherRealm of not making it particularly clear that what you're buying is actually a voice announcer pack. While it should be kind of obvious, the only thing signifying that it's a voice announcer instead of the actual character is a microphone icon next to his portrait, something that could easily be overlooked if you're excited or rushing too much.
This is nothing new for Mortal Kombat 1 fans right now though, who have been calling the premium store DLC "predatory" consistently since launch. This is just another issue to throw on top of the pile of pricing-based controversies in recent weeks, and one that looks like it will only be growing for the foreseeable future.
In other Mortal Kombat 1 news, series creator Ed Boon recently revealed that Omni-Man wasn't actually his first pick from Robert Kirkman's creations as a guest character. Instead, Boon tried getting Michonne from The Walking Dead, who would've become the series' first ever female guest character. Why he went with Omni-Man instead is unknown, but fans will be hoping we finally get that female guest character in Kombat Pack 2.
