Have you heard about Howl? It’s a turn-based tactical game with a folktale twist that became quite popular on Steam. It has dropped on Android this week as a free-to-play game. It’s being published by Astragon and developed by Mi’pu’mi.
Howl is set in a Grimm’s Fairy Tale-like world but a darker version of it. An acoustic plague has hit the world. Basically, some beasts have infiltrated into the villages. If you hear a beast’s howl, you’ll turn into a beast yourself. It’s like A Quiet Place having a crossover with a zombie movie.
The main character, however, is a deaf girl. So, the plague’s got nothing on her. Yep, our heroine is navigating a world filled with sound-triggered terrors, but her deafness acts as a blessing. You step into the shoes of that girl and fight the wolve-like beasts.
There are sixty levels to beat which are quite interesting and complex, at times. Unlike other tactical games where you trade turns, Howl has all the action happening simultaneously. You map out your plan, and the cursed wolves react in real time. Want to see for yourself? Catch a glimpse of the game below!
Howl is a simple tactical RPG with a nice lore. All you need to do is save villagers, dodge wolves and bail in record time. But the game is insanely satisfying. And just when you think you’ve got it down, it serves up even tougher wolf varieties and new skills that’ll have you coming back for more.
So, if you’re up for enjoying a dark, fairytale world, grab the game from the Google Play Store. You can also check out their official website for more details.
