Applin is a Gen 8 Pokémon that originally was introduced with two evolutionary forms, Appletun and Flapple, but in 's DLC,, Applin has a new evolutionary form, Dipplin. Despite that there are three different evolutionary forms for Applin, all three are the same Grass/Dragon type and each one requires a special item.
Whereas the Flapple requires a Tart Apple item and Appletun requires a Sweet Apple, the Dipplin evolution requires a new item that can be found easily in the DLC. The item required to evolve Applin into Dipplin is a Syrupy Apple. This item can be used to evolve Applin at any point and only costs 500 coins.
Before evolving Applin, players will actually need to have an Applin. Though Applin can be caught in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet's base game, it can also easily be found in the DLC in a pretty obvious location. Slightly to the west of the welcome center, players should find an Apple Tree Farm, Apple Hills.
As expected, there will be several Applin found wandering around this area including one very obvious glowing one, so grab any that you see, and then you'll be ready to go track down the Syrupy Apple item.
The Syrupy Apple Item can be found in one specific location in the Kitakami region. However, before heading over to it, be sure to have at least 500 coins on hand as it will require that much money to purchase it. Luckily money can be earned quickly in by selling something at the shop or battling any of the available trainers in the region.
With money in hand, head east from the welcome center, across the bridge, and down to the southeast corner of the map, Mossfell Confluence, where there will be a small building. Next to the building will be what looks almost like a fruit stand and luckily, the only thing sold here are Syrupy Apples.
Purchase one of the Syrupy Apples and then use the item on Applin. Be sure to use the item, not give it to Applin to hold. To use the item, make sure Applin is in the current party. After using the Syrupy Item, Applin will evolve into Dipplin, the new evolution of this returning Pokémon in .
This evolution is the same typing as the others, Grass/Dragon, but one interesting thing to note is that many players have noticed that the shiny version of Dipplin, which is a bright yellow, will have a different color Syrup Bomb than the traditional version. This unique feature is a first for shiny Pokémon moves and something special to see with Shiny Dipplin in .
