Hideo Kojima Was Forced to Get Thrifty During Metal Gear Solid 1's Development

A new trailer from Gamera Games came out of Tokyo Game Show this week, showing off a new look at combat gameplay in Youthcat Studio's interstellar factory-builder and giving a release date: December 2023 will be when the Rise of the Dark Fog update releases for free to all owners of Dyson Sphere Program. A second, longer trailer also released goes more in-depth with gameplay footage of the Icarus robot defending its factory from attack.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer attended Tokyo Game Show 2023 in person to meet with fans and press alike. Japanese website Game Watch published a new interview with the executive just a few hours ago, and the conversation provides several tidbits worth reporting.

The development of Star Wars Eclipse, the highly-awaited title being developed by Quantic Dream, is moving forward, albeit slowly, said the developer. Speaking to IGN at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Lisa Pendse, VP of Marketing at Quantic Dream, said on the topic:

Announced earlier this year, Bandai Namco's Sand Land looks to translate a cult Japanese comic into an open-world adventure. Playing it on the floor of Tokyo Game Show, I came away intrigued about the characters and story, but less thrilled about actually playing the full game.

January 2024 will be literally loaded with games that gamers will have to pick and choose from to see what they play first or how many they’ll be able to afford. For the fighting game crowd, Bandai Namco is releasing Tekken 8 on January 26th, and they promise a visually stunning entry fueled by Unreal Engine 5 while also diving even deeper into the game’s story mode. At the Tokyo Game Show, producers Katsuhiro Harada and Michael Murray did a special stream of the title so they could drop details for fans. Many of these were about the story mode, but we also got some key gameplay details.

Something that many video game fans have grown tired of over the last decade or so are video games that get announced by big-time publishers or developers and then aren’t seen again for many years. To them, it’s kind of insulting to try and hype them up about a game that potentially won’t arrive for years. If it’s a year or two? That can be fine. But 3-5 years or more? That just makes gamers wonder why the title was announced in the first place. One such title this happened with was Star Wars Eclipse, a title by Quantic Dream that was revealed in 2021.

While HoYoverse is perhaps best-known in the west for Genshin Impact and the recently released Honkai Star Rail, but it has a third, older game it’s been running since 2016: Honkai Impact 3rd.

After 16 years hiding away, it looks like Izuna is back on the scene. Success Corporation announced that it’s currently working on a revival of the Nintendo DS-era RPG series Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja.

During a special Capcom showcase earlier this year, the company revealed that the “second half” of the Ace Attorney saga would be getting a modern upgrade and brought to current systems. The only thing we didn’t know was when that would take place. The good news is that at the Tokyo Game Show, all was revealed! The Apollo Justice Ace Attorney Trilogy will officially be released on January 25th, 2024, and a new trailer for the trilogy was dropped, which you can see below! This upgraded take on the trilogy is perfect for those who weren’t able to play these games when they originally came out.

Back in 2019, iconoclastic Japanese indie creators Goichi “Suda51” Suda (No More Heroes, Killer 7, Let it Die) and Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro (Deadly Premonition, The Good Life) announced they would be teaming up on a horror-flavored game named Hotel Barcelona. In the years since we’ve heard very little about this team up, but when pressed, Suda and Swery have continued to insist it was happening. Well, during this year’s Tokyo Game Show Hotel Barcelona was finally revealed, and it looks every bit as strange as you’d expect.

New Dragon's Dogma 2 gameplay footage was shared online today, providing a new look at the upcoming action role-playing game in development by CAPCOM.

Clouded Leopard Entertainment will release voxel third-person shooter Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch in Asia in English in 2024, the publisher announced. The Asian version will support English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese audio, and English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese text.
