Something that many video game fans have grown tired of over the last decade or so are video games that get announced by big-time publishers or developers and then aren’t seen again for many years. To them, it’s kind of insulting to try and hype them up about a game that potentially won’t arrive for years. If it’s a year or two? That can be fine. But 3-5 years or more? That just makes gamers wonder why the title was announced in the first place. One such title this happened with was Star Wars Eclipse, a title by Quantic Dream that was revealed in 2021.
The title was shown during The Game Awards, making many people wonder what it was and how it would feel compared to other titles within the franchise. By design, the trailer didn’t unveil much, but we do know it was set during the era of the High Republic, and the trailer showed off some new alien species that players could encounter. Quantic Dream later noted that it would be an action-adventure title, but it would still have some of the things that Quantic Dream was known for.
However, ever since that first trailer, there hasn’t been a trace of Star Wars Eclipse in the visual sense. There have been MANY reports of what’s going on with the title, and none of them are good. There was even a report that said the title wouldn’t be released until 2026 and that Quantic Dream was having trouble hiring people to make the game!
Fast forward to now, and IGN interviewed Lisa Pendse, Vice President of Marketing for Quantic Dream, during the Tokyo Game Show. When she was asked about the title, she simply noted:
“Can I say it still exists? Because it exists. It’s just not ready. It’s simmering.”
While that may be proof that the game is still alive and being worked on, that doesn’t indicate when fans can expect it to be released or to see another glimpse of the title. One of the ironies of this is that another game within this universe, Star Wars Outlaws, was unveiled for the first time back in June by Xbox and Ubisoft. We bring this up because the title will be coming out next year. That game will be set during the original trilogy but will tell a fresh story from a thief’s perspective.
We’ll have to see if Quantic Dream “hurries things up,” depending on how well that title does.

When there’s a new Star Wars project announced, it’s safe to approach your excitement with realistic expectations, especially given the track record of serial cancellations for this franchise. Given Lucasfilm’s recent project restructures, many fans fear that another beloved project has made its way to the chopping board.
The Force is strong once again in Fortnite battle royale.
Given how big 2023 has been for gaming on numerous levels, it can be easy to forget that certain titles have been out for several months and were really incredible when they arrived. One such title was Star Wars Jedi Survivor. The sequel to Respawn Entertainment’s epic first entry into the galaxy far, far away, was highly anticipated by fans, and many were curious how the development team would handle the continued journey of Kal Kestis. Thankfully, outside of some optimization issues, the game was great, and many consider it one of the many contenders for Game of the Year. But now the question is, what’s next?
There are many unsightly euphemisms for the various stages of game development. My favourite used to be "sunsetting", aka cancelling a live service game, aka "we dragged the servers outside and smashed them with bats, gangland style". But now there's a new front-runner, "simmering". You know what's simmering? Quantic Dream's Star Wars: Eclipse, that's what. "Can I say it still exists? Because it exists," the developer's Lisa Pendse has revealed in a new interview from this year's Tokyo Game Show. "It's just not ready. It's simmering." Hmm.
Development of Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse is «simmering», the studio has said, suggesting further details are still a ways off.
Star Wars Eclipse stunned fans with its glossy cinematic reveal trailer in late 2021. Now, almost two years on, developer Quantic Dream has nothing to show for it, as we're yet to get any more details on the game, let alone a look at how it actually plays. Now, Quantic Dream is having to reassure us that the game "still exists", it's just "simmering" for now, whatever that means.
It seems that Star Wars: Eclipse will be keeping in line with Quantic Dream's classic style of interactive storytelling as the studio confirms that the game won't have a game over screen.
The development of Star Wars Eclipse, the highly-awaited title being developed by Quantic Dream, is moving forward, albeit slowly, said the developer. Speaking to IGN at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Lisa Pendse, VP of Marketing at Quantic Dream, said on the topic:
The Star Wars franchise has had several major highs over the years with the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. However, while future titles like Star Wars Outlaws look good, there are questions regarding titles like Star Wars Eclipse.
