Helldivers 2 may not have the mass market cache that other first-party Sony properties like God of War, Spider-Man, The Last of Us, or others have, but the co-op third-person shooter is still a game that many have been looking forward to for a while now, and the excitement that it has generated is being reflected in its players numbers instantly upon launch.
Helldivers 2 became available on PC and PS5 roughly three hours ago, and it has started strong. As per SteamDB, at the time of writing, it has hit a peak of 57,110 players- and that number is still rising, so this may very well already be outdated by the time you’re reading this report.
That impressive number means Helldivers 2 is also the third-best launch on Steam for a PlayStation Studios game to date, surpassing the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us Part 1, Days Gone, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It currently ranks only behind God of War (peak of 73,529 concurrent users) and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (peak of 66,436 concurrent users). You can check out a ranking of all PlayStation Studios PC launches below.
Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that it intends to release plenty of post-launch content for Helldivers 2, including new biomes, enemies, objectives, and more, all of which will be free. On top of that, free story updates are also planned.

A new Helldivers 2 patch has been deployed, and developer Arrowhead has confirmed that the Helldivers 2 server cap has been raised to 700.000 concurrent players.
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has raised the game’s server cap to a whopping 700,000 concurrent users as it braces itself for another weekend of massive player numbers.
After some pretty hefty wait times and server issues, Helldivers 2 CEO Johan Pilestedt finally confirms that concurrent player counts have been increased.
Helldiver 2‘s popularity has drawn in players from around the world ready to spread democracy across the galaxy. Unfortunately, Arrowhead’s servers weren’t prepared for just how popular the game was going to be, which has led to frustrating issues.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt has taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Helldivers 2 now has a higher server cap for concurrent players. While the studio still expects the game to hit that server cap, especially over the weekend, this hopefully means that more players will be able to play and wait times for logging into Helldivers 2 will be more bearable.
Since its release a couple of weeks ago, Helldivers 2 has shown no signs of slowing down, and even amidst widespread server and technical issues (which developer Arrowhead Game Studios is looking to address with imminent patches, the first of which has already released), the co-op shooter is continuing to attract players in numbers.
Starship Troopers-simulator Helldivers 2 continues to conquer new worlds, deep-striking past Destiny 2 in terms of concurrent player count and approaching Palworld in terms of popularity. Notable, from a PlayStation perspective, is another surprising feat developer Arrowhead achieved in terms of PC dominance: more concurrents than the peak player count of every single PlayStation PC port released on Steam so far.
A week and a half ago, Helldivers 2 dropped on PC and PS5, and it’s been gaining quite a reputation.
Helldivers 2, the latest co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, is a smash hit. The game, which released February 8 on PS5 and PC, has surpassed popular titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Destiny 2, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in all-time peak concurrent players on Steam. Owing to its ballooning player count, however, the third-person shooter has faced persistent server issues, with developers working to issue fixes. Now, Arrowhead Games Studios has reportedly capped its concurrent players to around 450,000 to improve server stability.
Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead says it has had to «cap» concurrent players to around 450,000 to «further improve server stability».
Helldivers 2 developers decided over the weekend to cap the concurrent player count to 450,000 amongst server instability, but that hasn't stopped thousands of players from enjoying the chaotic third-person shooter.
Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has achieved another incredible milestone. It peaked at 409,367 concurrent players on Steam, beating out the likes of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 (whichreached 364,548 concurrent players on the platform about nine years ago). This is after it recently surpassed player counts for Starfield and Destiny 2, with the developer having to raise the concurrent player cap due to overcrowded servers.
