Helldivers 2 has capped concurrent players to "improve server stability"

Two indie games on Steam were disguised as Helldivers 2 earlier today, to scam players into buying them.

The team behind Helldivers 2, presumably fully aware that Steam Deck and PC players would go digging into the game's files, have left a funny little detail in there.

The online cooperative game space has grown increasingly crowded in recent years and it’s no secret as to why. Multiplayer shooters are some of the most popular and profitable genres in the entire medium. This is because there are a whole lot more things that players can spend their money on, even after they’ve ponied up the asking price for either edition of a game like Helldivers II.

A new Helldivers 2 patch has been deployed, and developer Arrowhead has confirmed that the Helldivers 2 server cap has been raised to 700.000 concurrent players.

After some pretty hefty wait times and server issues, Helldivers 2 CEO Johan Pilestedt finally confirms that concurrent player counts have been increased. 

Helldiver 2‘s popularity has drawn in players from around the world ready to spread democracy across the galaxy. Unfortunately, Arrowhead’s servers weren’t prepared for just how popular the game was going to be, which has led to frustrating issues.

Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt has taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Helldivers 2 now has a higher server cap for concurrent players. While the studio still expects the game to hit that server cap, especially over the weekend, this hopefully means that more players will be able to play and wait times for logging into Helldivers 2 will be more bearable.

Since its release a couple of weeks ago, Helldivers 2 has shown no signs of slowing down, and even amidst widespread server and technical issues (which developer Arrowhead Game Studios is looking to address with imminent patches, the first of which has already released), the co-op shooter is continuing to attract players in numbers.

A week and a half ago, Helldivers 2 dropped on PC and PS5, and it’s been gaining quite a reputation.

Helldivers 2, the latest co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, is a smash hit. The game, which released February 8 on PS5 and PC, has surpassed popular titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Destiny 2, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in all-time peak concurrent players on Steam. Owing to its ballooning player count, however, the third-person shooter has faced persistent server issues, with developers working to issue fixes. Now, Arrowhead Games Studios has reportedly capped its concurrent players to around 450,000 to improve server stability.

Helldivers 2 developers decided over the weekend to cap the concurrent player count to 450,000 amongst server instability, but that hasn't stopped thousands of players from enjoying the chaotic third-person shooter.
