FromSoftware Has Addressed Calls For A Bloodborne Remake

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC got a new trailer and release date, which has brought director Hidetaka Miyazaki into the spotlight once again. He was interviewed by a number of different outlets recently, in which he revealed tidbits such as the general difficulty of Shadow of the Erdtree, as well the likelihood of us getting an Elden Ring sequel any time soon.

Of course, you don't often get the chance to sit down with a busy man like Miyazaki, so Eurogamer took the opportunity to ask him about the potential of a Bloodborne remake or remaster, something that fans of the title have been crying out for over the past few years. It turns out that FromSoftware is keenly aware that Bloodborne fans are begging for a remake, and Miyazaki is "very happy" that so many people are still so passionate about the title.

When asked whether a remake of Bloodborne would benefit more from the horsepower of the next PlayStation console, he explains that bringing games to new and more powerful hardware is what "gives these remakes value". However, he also says that bringing older games to modern systems improves a game's accessibility, and that he thinks this aspect can be the "driving force" behind bringing titles to new platforms.

I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value. Things you weren't able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren't able to render specific expressions - [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible. - Hidetaka Miyazaki

In regard to whether a remaster or remake of Bloodborne is on the cards, Miyazaki has unfortunately been much more tight-lipped. In a different interview with IGN Japan, Miyazaki says that he can't answer any questions about the topic as Bloodborne is "not an IP that we can do anything about". He goes on to say that he personally loves Bloodborne, and it holds a special place in his heart, but that FromSoftware has "nothing to say" regarding a remaster or remake.

That's not that surprising when you take into account that FromSoftware doesn't actually own the rights to Bloodborne. It very much seems like Sony and PlayStation hold all the cards when it comes to anything Bloodborne-related, so even if FromSoftware wanted to work on a remake or sequel, it would need Sony's permission first. That makes it at least understandable as to why Miyazaki couldn't clear anything up, even if it is yet more frustrating news for Bloodborne enjoyers.
