FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to make more games as big as Elden Ring: "If I am allowed, I want to try"

Discord is making a play to not simply be the software you use to talk while playing games with your pals, but the software you use to play them too. The ubiquitous chat client already lets you play a handful of approved games inside itself without dowloading or launching anything seperate, along with other 'Activities' like watching YouTube together, and next week it will open up to a whole lot more. Discord will let all developers make their own Activities, wanting to jam in more games and social hangout experiences and stuff. I'm broadly up for things removing faff from getting casual hangout games running with pals.

Elden Ring is the gift that just does not stop giving, as every week there's a new discovery, exploit, or item description that has new context due to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC's latest trailer. Last week, there was the revelation that Walking Mausoleums can be pushed around with a certain spell, but this week's is one hell of a find from a dataminer called Sekiro Dubi, who has reconstructed an alternate intro for the game.

A new combat system in ’s DLC will likely change how players approach difficult challenges with bosses and mini-bosses in the additional content for the game. The long-awaited expansion was announced back in February 2023, a year after the base game’s original release. At the time, little information was provided other than the title itself and artwork featuring a blonde character mounted on a Spirit Steed, with an alternative version of the Erdtree far in the distance. Now, more information has been uncovered with the DLC’s gameplay reveal trailer.

Inspired by the Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay reveal trailer, a talented Elden Ring fan completes an impressive painting based on the setting of the new DLC expansion, the Land of Shadow. The Elden Ring painting depicts the Erdtree and the mythical shadow covering the new region that players will soon explore this June.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is inextricably linked to FromSoftware in a way that we very rarely see with directors and studios. Having directed the likes of Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring, Miyazaki is responsible from some of the studio’s biggest hits over the last decade and a half, and has led the teams for the overwhelming majority of its flagship releases.

FromSoftware is eager to keep making Armored Core games, although another entry in the franchise won't see the light of day anytime soon. This teaser hinting at the company's future plans was offered as part of a recent retrospective on Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.

While the wait for news on Elden Ring or the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC might've been excruciating for FromSoftware's most dedicated fans, the studio has actually managed to pump out AAA games at a remarkable pace given how beloved every release tends to be. Creative director Hidetaka Miyazaki says the key to success is a well-managed studio filled with developers who are great at what they do and put in the best position for success.

The folks over at FromSoftware have made new headlines this week, all thanks to a recent trailer drop. Elden Ring fans were treated to a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Shadows of the Erdtree. This would be DLC for their behemoth of a hit, Elden Ring. But for some fans, there might be some hope that Armored Core might not become a dormant franchise again. Fortunately, this franchise doesn’t look like it will be shelved for the long haul.
