Final Fantasy 16 Producer Finds Negativity From Online Trolls “Tiresome”

It's been 14 years since the last Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game, and you'd certainly be forgiven for thinking the series is over and done with, but according to producer Akitoshi Kawazu, that isn't the case.

As we all know, if a video game is beloved, it will tend to get lots of attention from its developers/publishers and “blossom” in ways that gamers will typically appreciate. When Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was released on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2003, it was hailed as one of the best games in the franchise. With its unique look, fun story, tight gameplay mechanics, and more, gamers and critics fell in love with it. The game would get spinoffs and a remaster to showcase how good it was. However, many are stunned the game never got a true sequel.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, the mobile RPG retelling the FFVII saga, finally has a release date. The game was first announced in February 2021. 

Square Enix reported some steep drops in its latest financial report, leading the company’s stock to take a hit on the Japanese market. Notably, the company’s MMO segment saw a 22% drop in revenue year over year.

Final Fantasy XIV is my favorite MMORPG ever, and it’s largely thanks to how active Square Enix has been with its player community. Director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has always taken fans’ feedback to heart, proving time and time again that Final Fantasy XIV has one of the most active development teams around. Following his recent appearance at the FFXIV Fan Festival 2023, Yoshi-P has discussed the game’s upcoming expansion and what he personally wants to see implemented as playable content in the MMO.

Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed in an interview at the game’s recent Fanfest that he wanted to bring the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games to the MMORPG, making them playable in-game, according to GamesRadar. Yoshida revealed that the studio had experimented with trying to get old Final Fantasy games running inside Final Fantasy 14, and potentially making them playable at the Gold Saucer.

This weekend, the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival kicked off, bringing about fifteen thousand fans to Las Vegas to get the latest news, hang out with fellow fans, and do stuff (like wait in lines). The initial keynote, given by director and lead producer Naoki Yoshida, was the most emphasized event of the weekend, and literally nothing else opened up until it was wrapped up—so fans knew they were in for something , mostly likely a new expansion. And it was! 

In a bit of a watershed moment, Square Enix’s enduring MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14 is heading to Xbox consoles.

Square Enix wants to let Final Fantasy 14 fans play with others who live across the globe, though certain challenges throw up a barrier to making that happen.

Square Enix hosted its Fan Fest for Final Fantasy XIV today, spotlighting all the updates coming to its massive MMORPG. Among the announcements of an expansion and new platform being in the mix, one of the biggest rounds of applause came for something that seems a little less grandiose, at least to less XIV-familiar folks: two dyes per gear piece.

Today, Square Enix announced that its successful MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, is on its way to Xbox consoles after years of being a PlayStation console exclusive. And to hear the CEO of Square Enix tell it, it sounds like Xbox has successfully ensured that even more Square Enix games will end up on its consoles in the coming years.
