Final Fantasy 14 Director Wanted to Make Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters Playable at the Gold Saucer

One of the most dangerous things about the internet is that plenty of posts on places like social media seem “legitimate” for one reason or another, and yet they’re later proven not to be. An excellent example is when someone posts pictures from a “store page” for a certain title that appears to have a release date or reveals a new system the game will be on. Yesterday, a rumor popped up from a Brazilian store that said Final Fantasy VII Remake was coming to Xbox. As you can probably guess, Xbox gamers were excited about this. But soon enough, the truth was revealed.

The father of the Final Fantasy series has high praise for Final Fantasy 16.

Square Enix reported some steep drops in its latest financial report, leading the company’s stock to take a hit on the Japanese market. Notably, the company’s MMO segment saw a 22% drop in revenue year over year.

Upon its highly anticipated launch last month, Final Fantasy 16 sold over 3 million units worldwide, with Square Enix stating shortly afterward that it considered the action RPG’s initial sales to be “extremely strong”. It seems, however, that the momentum of its sales has slowed down considerably since then.

Final Fantasy maker Square Enix says that its Q2 operating income has dropped 79% year on year, despite the launch of Final Fantasy 16. As we await the arrival of the FFXIV Dawntrail release date and the next big expansion for the MMORPG, Square Enix says that, despite an increase in overall game sales, development costs and payments have caused a sharp downturn in income. In light of the newly published financials, the Final Fantasy 14 creator has also seen its share price decline by 12%.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters have gone down pretty well with fans, reigniting interest in the six classics that got the series going before Final Fantasy 7 changed everything. Now, it seems that Square Enix wanted to take things even further, getting its MMO players to try out the retro RPGs.

The recent releases of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters have at last given a new audience the opportunity to play the original six Final Fantasy games on modern consoles. But while the games are currently available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, Square Enix would really love to get them working on a third platform, and no, I'm not talking about the Xbox. I'm talking about Final Fantasy 14.

Final Fantasy 14 fans have been enjoying one of the biggest weekends in recent history for the MMORPG. Topping the bill of big announcements was the reveal of the game's next expansion, Dawntrail.
