Fallout 76 Breaks Previous Peak Concurrent Player Record on Steam

Helldivers 2 players who’ve been playing the game on Windows PC via Steam since launch will now need a PlayStation Network account to access the game. Helldivers 2 publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment posted a notice to the game’s Steam page on Thursday informing Steam players of the change.

The Fallout craze continues to pay dividends for Bethesda. Earlier this week, the studio announced that Fallout 76 surpassed one million daily players across all platforms for the first time since its launch in late 2018. The multiplayer game is one of the top sellers on Steam (and elsewhere), largely thanks to various promotions and offers that have, however, since ended. On Valve's PC platform, the game reached 73.3K concurrent players last Sunday.

Fallout London's developer, Team FOLON, was supposed to be celebrating the long-anticipated launch of its fan game today. However, with Fallout 4's current-gen update just days away from going live, that isn't possible, and the game has been pushed back until fixes are made.

Team Folon’s Dean Carter, project lead on the highly anticipated mod Fallout London, has opened up about how Bethesda’s upcoming Fallout 4 update impacted the studio, saying the team felt “blindsided” by the move.

Fallout games have enjoyed considerable boosts in terms of sales and player numbers over the last week or so, thanks to the success of Amazon Prime’s Fallout series, and that continued over the weekend. Fallout 76, in fact, once again hit a new all-time peak of concurrent players on Steam on Sunday, surpassing its previous record of over 39,000 players (which it set last week), and nearly doubling it to land at 73,368 concurrent players (via SteamDB).

Fallout 76 has beaten its all-time concurrent player count on Steam again, just one week after previously doing it.

Recently the entire Fallout series got a huge popularity boost, and Fallout: New Vegas is no exception, as the title currently has hit an all-time peak of 36,633 concurrent players on Steam. This heightened interest coincides with the debut of Amazon's Fallout TV Series earlier this April, which has garnered an overwhelmingly positive reception from audiences and critics alike. This, in turn, has prompted many gamers to revisit their favorite games in the post-apocalyptic franchise, or perhaps experience them for the very first time.
