EA Motive turns to Unreal Engine 5 for Iron Man project

Microsoft has recently been implementing leadership changes for its Xbox division, as part of which vice president Sarah Bond was promoted to president, and Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty to president of game content and studios, and it has now been confirmed who will be stepping in the take up the latter’s vacant position.

In the past few months, several developers attempted to recreate The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with modern visuals using the power of Unreal Engine 5, but never before has someone attempted to do so using anime aesthetics inspired by Studio Ghibli.

Okay, this is absolutely insane. Over on Twitter, the excellent Reporters On Duty account has showcased a demo of Unreal Engine 5 running on the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

On Friday, Star Vault is opening up a new PTR for Mortal Online 2’s Unreal Engine 5 upgrade. This round of testing will focus on performance and getting things ready for the release of the brand new upgrade on November 28th.

Following the debut of HDR10+ GAMING in Nexon's looter shooter game The First Descendant, an Unreal Engine 5 plugin is now available to all game developers to facilitate integration.

EA Motive Studio’s Iron Man game is still in early pre-production, with Unreal Engine 5 being used over Frostbite. In a recent tweet, author Ryan North announced he’s part of the writing team for the upcoming superhero title, adding, “You are not ready for how amazing this game is going to be.”

One of the most common mistakes in certain branches of entertainment is thinking that “any kind of person in a certain role can jump into another field and do the same thing.” That’s not how things work; veterans will let you know that. After all, did you hear that Disney thought they could just have movie people run their Disney+ MCU shows, and everything would be fine? Hint: it didn’t, and now they regret doing that. With video games, that kind of problem can happen with certain roles, but the upcoming Iron Man game by EA Motive seems to be avoiding that pitfall in a good way.

Metal Gear Solid 3 arrived on PC for the first time yesterday thanks to the stealth-action series’ Master Collection. Unfortunately, it seems to be a fairly underwhelming PC debut for Hideo Kojima’s frog-munching masterpiece, with Snake Eater’s Steam page full of negative reviews about the barebones port’s restriction to 720p resolution, reported startup crashes and lack of Steam Deck support.

Konami dropped the first in-engine look at Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, during the Xbox Partner Preview. It showcases many familiar sights and sounds, from the unsettling quiet of the jungle to the alligators that Snake will encounter, all captured in-game in real time.

If you're weary of Baldur's Gate 3's whimsy, or you've finished gnawing the bones of Diablo 4 and are hungry for more of that sweet, sweet grimdark, you might like to check out Beast from Polish developer False Prophet, which goes into Steam early access today. It's a turn-based tactics RPG with a Gothic historical setting, an extremely late-noughties insanity mechanic, a heavy metal soundtrack, plagues, heresy, dynastic feuding, and a protagonist with a dramatic eye scar and possibly non-metaphorical "inner demons". Amongst other things, it looks like you can run people over with a horse-drawn carriage. M-Rated enough for you, edgelords? Here's the trailer.

For better or worse, we’ll have to wait to find out, there are multiple Marvel Comics-themed games in the works by various publishers. One of which is the EA Motive Iron Man, which has been confirmed for a while. Little is known about the game at present outside of the dev team, and the fact that it will be running on Unreal Engine 5, ensuring the game looks very good. However, there has been plenty of speculation on what the game could be and what elements it might partake in. To that end, a new job listing for EA Motive points to certain possibilities.

Mortal Online 2 is fast approaching the release of its Unreal Engine 5 upgrade. The PTR for the overhaul closed today, and Star Vault is enlisting the community to help make a trailer for the final release.
