Dragon's Dogma 2 has come and gone, leaving behind a fairly mixed reception that ballooned during release but slowly deflated as the weeks rolled by. A lot of that will be down to players making more progress, thus spending more time in the game, all the while its slight annoyances build up more and more. However, there appears to be one big sticking point with fans, regardless of their feelings about Dragon's Dogma 2 as a whole, and that's the game's anti-climactic finale.
We'll be getting spoiler heavy from now on, so this is your first and only warning if you're still playing.
Just so we're all on the same page, I'm not talking about the game's first finale. If you're still reading, chances are you'll know of Dragon's Dogma 2's clever little twist that sees the world plunged into chaos with an ever-growing cloud of purple nastiness threatening to wipe out all life. Players are tasked with taking down a few horrible beasties responsible for the world's end, dotted in various locations across the world, and evacuating the local citizenry.
It's a very clever subversion of expectations, and transforms the game like no other RPG has managed before, all culminating with a showdown with the true bad guy of Dragon's Dogma 2. Unfortunately, you'll struggle to find a fan that is actually satisfied with the game's ultimate conclusion, as players have recently been expressing their disappointment with the game's finale on Reddit.
First pointed out by Reddit user SbeveGobs on the Dragon's Dogma 2 subreddit, the game very strangely sets you up for a battle of the ages, gathering every shop owner, blacksmith, and armorer you meet in the entire game into one convenient spot. It even gives you a bed to fully heal yourself, as well as access to every resource you could possibly need, before stepping into a glowing light for what you assume is going to be a big, tough fight.
What you actually get is essentially an interactive cutscene as the credits roll, something which is described by user Thecodenamedois as the game's "greatest sin". You can find many players in the Reddit thread above complaining about spending up to an hour preparing for a climactic fight (I'm right there with you guys), only to have the game let them down and make them feel like their time was wasted.
It's an ending that's also been described as "embarrassing" and "bizarre", which is a little sad considering how well the game was received upon launch. Still, if you're yet to tackle the game's true ending, you can save yourself some heartache by just jumping into the final fight as soon as you're ready to leave the fight. Don't be a fool like me and spend an hour getting good armor and Wakestones.
