Destiny 2 players with an eye for fashion are creating new customized Guardian costumes themed after the game's Taken faction. Key to the costumes is the Superblack color shader, one of the main prizes from the free Destiny 2 Into the Light update, which Bungie released to keep players engaged with the game as they wait for The Final Shape expansion to launch.
Destiny 2 has seen a surge of player activity since Bungie released the Destiny 2 Into the Light update early in April 2024. Along with the new Onslaught game mode, the update granted players access to some of the most powerful weapons in Destiny 2's history via the BRAVE Arsenal. The lineup of remastered and revamped weapons from previous years gave a major boost to nostalgic players, as well as opening up some much-requested options for player customization by unlocking the ability to change an existing character's facial appearance for the first time.
One of the major prizes for participating in Into the Light activities and gaining favor with iconic Destiny alum Lord Shaxx is the Superblack shader, a desirable all-black color shader that gives players a look as dark as a living shadow. A pair of creative players who go by Bluejay_leather and revadike put Superblack to work in short order, using the shader to create custom armor arrangements that resemble none other than the Taken, one of the most dangerous and iconic Destiny enemy factions.
Posted on the DestinyFashion Reddit community, Bluejay_leather and revadike's custom costumes proposed Taken-themed looks for the Titan and the Hunter, respectively. Revadike's Taken Hunter used Superblack on the Hunter's Cloak and Mask, but the telltale Taken effect of deep black shot through with bright white light rays was achieved by mixing in white-dominant shaders like Amethyst Veil and Precursor Vex Chrome. Commenters highlighted revadike's use of the Aphotic Lamellar cloak from the Destiny 2 Season of the Deep and Holdfast mask to emulate the Taken's signature «flashlight face» look.
Bluejay_leather's Titan is inspired by the Taken Thrall enemy, and takes advantage of the fact that Titans have several armor items that incorporate visual effects directly based on the Taken. The Heart of Inmost Light, a popular exotic Titan chest piece, emits Taken radiation when equipped with the Abyss, Inverted armor ornament. Bluejay_leather combined the chest piece with the Heartrend gauntlets, Gensym Knight Helm, and the War Numen's Boots and Mark from the remastered King's Fall raid to create a Titan that gives off true Taken Thrall energy.
Players were impressed by both works, praising both Bluejay_leather and revadike in the comments. Bluejay_leather's effort earned kudos from one commenter for its use of a

A new Helldivers 2 patch is here and will hopefully put the whole PlayStation Network account linking debacle to bed once and for all, as it's now been added as an explicitly "optional" setting.
PlayStation’s first half of 2024 has been quietly successful without necessarily setting the world alight. Helldivers 2 proved a surprise megahit in both a critical and commercial sense, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the best RPGs of the year so far – even if it hasn’t quite sold the number of copies both Square Enix and Sony may have been hoping for – and, as recently as a few weeks ago, both Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade launched, bringing with them exciting brands of sharp action.
Sony has revealed the stats for its most downloaded games for the month of April. Going by the stats on the PlayStation Blog, on the PS5 side of things, Sea of Thieves topped the charts in EU, while Helldivers 2 led the way in US and Canada. The PS4, on the other hand, was dominated by Fallout 4 in both regions.
Sony have launched Expansion Open Access, which gives lapsed Destiny 2 players access to The Witch Queen, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep for the next month or so, until June 3rd. This delightful gift / cheap marketing ploy to get people interested in the game again is available across all formats and gives you access to a huge amount of content, so much that you are unlikely to finish it within the given time period.
Demand for Sea of Thieves on PS5 skyrocketed pretty much as soon as it became available to pre-order on the platform, and only went on to increase from then on, so it’s no surprise that the game’s sales are reflecting that in the aftermath of its PlayStation release.
Following the news that Sony no longer plans to move forward with its controversial Helldivers 2 PlayStation Network account-linking update, reviews are skyrocketing in a positive direction. The Helldivers 2 community has been up in arms over the recently announced update, which would have forced players to create and connect to a PlayStation Network account in order to access the game. Massive backlash ensued, with Helldivers 2 being review-bombed on Steam. This decision was ultimately reversed, with reviews immediately shooting up as a result.
With the PSN account linking fiasco now in the rearview mirror, what was nearly a disaster moment for Helldivers 2 is now becoming a part of community lore. Fans have been busy working on cape designs since Sony reversed course, at least some of which have seemingly caught the eye of the development team.
A joking post about a recently released Call of Duty skin has Destiny 2 fans calling on Bungie to release some custom cosmetics in a similar vein. The new skin found in Call of Duty just so happens to look perfectly suited to be an armor set based on the Destiny 2 Stasis subclass.
A creative Destiny 2 player has expressed their appreciation for the latest Dune film with a set of custom armor inspired by House Harkonnen soldiers seen in one of the film's most iconic scenes. Theirs is part of a new wave of custom Destiny 2 costumes replicating the looks of Harkonnen soldiers and characters like the Baron, Rabban, and Feyd-Rautha.
An Insomniac Games developer has shared an unused piece of animation from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 pertaining to the game's iconic antagonist, Venom. Despite not making it to the final version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, fans are quite impressed with how good the animation is.
Helldivers 2 has been one of 2024's most beloved titles ever since launch, proving that live service titles can be extremely popular if they're properly supported and fans are properly respected. Unfortunately, Arrowhead is now throwing a lot of that goodwill into the trash, as players recently found out that they'll need to sign up to a PlayStation Network and link it to Steam if they want to continue playing the game past June 4.
