Director’s Take: Welcoming Venture to Overwatch

Kwalee, the British video game developer and publisher, is now diving into the Casual gaming scene with Text Express: Word Adventure. In case you don’t know, they’ve published hits like Teacher Simulator and Airport Security with over 1 billion downloads on mobile.

Overwatch 2's various animated shorts have cemented some of the series' most iconic moments, and a fantastic piece of fan artwork inspired by the upcoming Mirrorwatch event puts a spin on one particularly memorable moment between Tracer and Widowmaker. Season 10 of Overwatch 2 has proven to be a big one for the game, bringing with it a new hero, some widely-requested changes to the battle pass, and a plethora of awesome new skins which see heroes become villains.

Like many other multiplayer games, Overwatch 2isn't immune from cheaters. And it's not only an issue on PC, where cheaters use tools like aimbots. Some folks use XIM devices so they can play with a keyboard and mouse (KBM) on consoles. This is against Blizzard's rules, as KBM players typically have an aim advantage over those who use a controller, even though the console versions of the game have features like aim assist. While it's taken some time to get the ball rolling, the developer is finally doing something about the XIM problem.

We’re thrilled that Venture is finally in the hero lineup, and it’s been fun to see you get your hands on their groundbreaking kit and mechanics. Today two developers who were part of our newest hero's strike team will share a behind-the-scenes look at how Venture, became Venture.

The latest season for Overwatch 2 finally allows players to permanently unlock and play as Venture, but fans have noticed that despite this new character playing a central role in the latest season, it seems they'll be getting an extremely slim pool of skins to choose from — for now, at least. Though Overwatch 2's Season 10: Venture Forth event does pack a long list of interesting skins for a wide variety of heroes, it appears these come at the cost of cosmetics for the drill-wielding damage hero.

Overwatch 2, Season 10, entitled “Venture Forth” arrives tomorrow and Blizzard has fully spelled out what it will entail. The season will introduce new drill-wielding, underground burrowing hero Venture, but that’s not all. Players can look forward to the “Mirrorwatch” event, which sees several characters swap alignment from hero to villain, and vice-versa, resulting in new looks and tweaked movesets, the launch of the capture point Clash mode, big changes to how heroes are accessed (they’re all free immediately upon release now), and more. Final Fantasy 16 has succeeded in attracting a younger audience to the series, according to DLC director Takeo Kujiraoka.

Fans of Overwatch 2 have shown off some seriously creative projects in the past, but a particularly alternative project recently shared among the community entertains the idea of the game's heroes as Pokemon, and what type each member of the roster would use. The vibrant personalities and often unique appearances of Overwatch 2's many heroes create plenty of room for fans to create custom skins for them, and while the multiplayer FPS title has crossed over with various other franchises recently, reimagining Overwatch 2's characters as Pokemon makes for a pretty esoteric concept.

An inventive Overwatch 2 fan has created a skin concept that turns Venture into an Inkling from Splatoon 3. In its near-two-year journey, Overwatch 2 has received exciting collaborations with famous names that have turned into content for Blizzard's shooter. Among this content is the skins released for the heroes of Overwatch 2, changing their appearance to characters equally beloved by fans of pop culture.
