From layoffs and a delay to Destiny 2’s The Final Shape to a new Marathon director and the rumored cancellation of Matter, Bungie is in a fair amount of turmoil these days. The developer delayed The Final Shape to allow more time for polish amid reports of pre-orders tracking below expectations.
If that weren’t enough, there are reportedly fears of layoffs once the expansion launches, according to a new report by IGN. A source with “knowledge of budgets” at Bungie said, “Nothing adds up” and “something will need to happen to curb costs unless The Final Shape does so well to cover the gap and people can move to Marathon.”
Senior leadership is seemingly expected to depart the studio in Summer 2026 once it receives the remaining payouts from Sony’s acquisition. However, the overall mood at Bungie currently is that The Final Shape needs to succeed. What could happen if it falls below expectations is unknown, but it’s nothing positive.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape launches on June 4th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Xbox One and PS4. The developer will reveal more details in April, so stay tuned for more updates.

The profanity filter for the Xbox client of Final Fantasy 14 is going a bit overboard, censoring bizarre phrases and letter combinations in its chat interface. This is causing parts of otherwise innocuous words to be censored, even if they are across multiple words or a part of automatically-generated emote text in Final Fantasy 14.
Destiny 2’s next big update, Into the Light, has received several new details lately. From the new mode, Onslaught, to the addition of BRAVE weapons (with all arriving slightly sooner than expected) and a new social space, Hall of Champions, there’s much to look forward to. Final Fantasy 16 could make the jump to other platforms once it launches on PC, at least according to some of the game’s developers. The latest mainline Final Fantasy game launched exclusively on the PlayStation 5 last June, but Square Enix has promised a PC port at a later date. So far, there is no official word on when the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 will be released, but producer Naoki Yoshida recently told fans that it is in the end stages of development and a playable demo should be forthcoming.

With Final Fantasy 14 gearing up to release Dawntrail in the summer, some datamining of Patch 6.58 uncovered two items that may be associated with preorders of the anticipated expansion. The Final Fantasy 14 items in question, Azeyma's Earrings, and the Wind-Up Zidane minion were listed as items added to the game with the latest content update.
