Earlier this month, Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive made the exciting announcement that Alan Wake is being added to the game as a playable Survivor on January 30. His addition immediately has us all asking if any playable Killers from the Alan Wake series could be added in the future too, but Scratch has been taken off the table as he's "too close" to The Entity.
This info was dropped in a recent Discord press Q&A with Dead by Daylight senior creative director Dave Richard and Alan Wake 2 director Kyle Rowley. During the session, Richard claimed that the reason why they went with Alan Wake and couldn't introduce Scratch was because he's "impossible to conceptualise as a playable killer", which is fair since he's portrayed as a mass of screaming faces for the majority of Alan Wake 2.
What with Dead by Daylight also having a mysterious and mostly intangible force of evil known as The Entity, it was explained that Scratch is also a little bit "too close" to be included and that the two could possibly clash. Richard goes on to explain that the team did have some ideas about how to include him, but none they could "integrate in the time we have". Rowley also chimes in by teasing that not everything is black and white around Scratch as a killer. If you know, you know.
Too almighty, impossible to conceptualise as a playable killer so we said 'no it's a not a great fit right now'.
Thankfully, the idea of a playable killer from the Alan Wake series wasn't taken off of the table entirely. Richard later explains that the team at Behaviour has actually played Alan Wake 2 now, and that there are a bunch of monsters that "could have been a great fit" for a potential inclusion. While we won't get any when Alan Wake releases, Richard leaves the door open by saying "maybe later".
For now, we'll all be able to flee in terror as everyone's favorite, perpetually distressed writer in a little under two weeks. If you're interested but don't know how Alan Wake will actually play, Dead by Daylight recently released a comprehensive breakdown of the character and his perks via its official Twitter account earlier today, which will make healing other survivors, fixing generators, and getting away from killers quicker, but at increased risk. Hey, it wouldn't be Dead by Daylight without a little danger.

Alan Wake is coming to Dead by Daylight at the end of this month, the tortured writer set to be the latest survivor in the long-running multiplayer horror game, but how did this come to be and what will Alan play like?
The Rockstar Editor will soon be removed from the PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA Online because last-gen consoles aren't getting any younger.
Dead by Daylight, the multiplayer survival horror released back in 2016, has had some eclectic crossovers in its eight years. From Chucky, to Halloween's Laurie Strode, to Nicolas Cage, it's giving Fortnite a run for its money.
Take-Two Interactive has filed an opposition to Remedy Entertainment’s newest logo, claiming the symbol infringes on Rockstar Games’ logo despite the two having little in common besides the letter “R” representing a video game publisher. First reported by RemedyFirst, the trademark dispute was filed against two versions of the Remedy logo (one with the company’s name, one without) in September with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office.
Fans of Control and the world that it shares with the Alan Wake games may have much to look forward to, as a new trademark filed by Remedy Entertainment provides more information pertaining to the next game in the series. It's known that Remedy apparently has a number of different projects in the works, but new information suggests that the studio has even grander aspirations for the future of the Control universe than fans had expected.
You could say that Alan Wake 2 was decades in the making. Last year’s blockbuster from Remedy saw the studio return to its roots and the horrors therein, dredging up the past to loop into something new, now. But it wasn’t just the main character or gameplay style we saw return, but the sounds and inspirations of the original Alan Wake too, bubbling up from Cauldron Lake through the music of Poe.
