Cult Spin-Off Resistance Retribution Is Coming to PS5, PS4 with PS Plus Premium | Push Square

RPG Maker is a franchise that's largely steered clear of PlayStation consoles, but that trend is set to change with the release of RPG Maker WITH. Published by NIS America, it's headed to PC and Switch at some point in the autumn / fall, while PS5 and PS4 versions are locked in for 2025.

Ubisoft’s narrative tear jerker Valiant Hearts: The Great War first debuted to critical acclaim on the PS4 almost a decade ago, but it’s taken a long time for its successor to arrive. Developed by Old Skull Games, sequel Valiant Hearts: Coming Home launched exclusively for Netflix subscribers last year. It’s now finally available for the PS4, as of 7th March.

House Flipper 2 is flipping onto PS5 a little later than initially planned. Developer Frozen District has confirmed the console port of its successful home-renovating sim has been delayed, now arriving on 10th April, 2024. That's a delay of just a few weeks, so it's far from the end of the world.

It sounds like all is not well at Sony studio Firesprite, which the platform holder acquired in 2021. Despite moving into expensive new digs in its home city of Liverpool, a Eurogamer report paints an extremely grim picture of the outfit, which is allegedly bleeding staff and lost its managing director Graeme Ankers suddenly last May.

Sony has today confirmed around 900 PlayStation employees — or around eight per cent of its workforce — are being laid off in order to «future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead». As a result of the downsizing, PlayStation's own London Studio is being closed completely and Firesprite will be reduced in size. The staff reductions will also hit Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Guerrilla Games. Some unannounced games have been cancelled.

Sony has confirmed it's cancelled «some» unannounced games at PlayStation Studios, and according to Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, one of them is the long-rumoured Twisted Metal game from Firesprite. The journalist reports the project was in «early development» and hadn't been greenlit by Sony to go into full production yet, according to a source.

In case you missed the big news last week, PlayStation joined the rest of the industry in cutting hundreds of jobs across its business. What's more, the platform holder is closing one of its longest-standing developers, London Studio — but it seems another UK team may have been at risk, too.

Atlus has announced that the Persona series has slid past 22 million copies sold, releasing a special Persona 3 Reload trailer, «Promise», to celebrate. It's an impressive milestone, one which demonstrates how vast the gulf between the various players in the space remains; Final Fantasy, for comparison, has sold more than 180 million units across its admittedly much more extensive catalogue, and Dragon Quest racking up some 88 million, with both IP owned by Atlus competitor and OG RPG publisher, Square Enix.

Having officially announced the sequel was in production last year, developer Spiders has revealed the first proper look at GreedFall II: The Dying World. The follow-up is now confirmed to be a prequel that at least starts three years before the events of the first title, and has you play as a Teer Fradee native who's been snatched away from your homeland by colonists. Critics of Sony’s live service initiative are having their suspicions affirmed lately, as the platform holder struggles to get its projects off the ground. While the excellent Helldivers 2 has launched to great success, Naughty Dog’s standalone adaptation of The Last of Us has been unceremoniously scrapped, while Firesprite’s upcoming Twisted Metal reboot was recently canned and London Studio shuttered entirely. The latter was working on a co-op fantasy game.
