Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software, and Treyarch today revealed what presents will arrive under the tree when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 launches.
Season 1 arrives just shy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s one-month anniversary on December 6. Like previous seasons, Season 1 brings with it a slew of new content, updates to all aspects of Modern Warfare III and Warzone, and new features.
Starting off with multiplayer, Modern Warfare III is set to get a trove of new maps and modes. Season 1 launches with two new multiplayer maps, Meat and Greece, with a third, Rio, coming mid-season. The season also sees the return of the popular Gunfight game mode. In addition to the Alley, Blacksite, Exhibit, and Shipment Gunfight maps carrying forward, the season also introduces a new Gunfight map in the form of Training Facility. Another new mode, All or Nothing, will also launch with the season. A host of new modes will launch mid-season, including Vortex (battle over the Ray Gun), CODMAS: Santa’s Slayground, Infected, Headquarters, and Team Gunfight.
Moving over to Modern Warfare Zombies, a new story act drops with Season 1 where a massive gateway has opened in the Exclusion Zone. There are also new Dark Aether Rifts filled with chaotic challenges, but also great rewards. Finally, a new wonder weapon, the V-R11, arrives with the ability to turn zombies into humans or mutate hostile humans into friendly zombies.
Warzone’s big update finally arrives in Season 1, implementing Modern Warfare III’s enhanced movement and mechanics into the Warzone experience. This includes the return of slide canceling, Taq-Stance, running while reloading, and more. The biggest update of all is the new Warzone map, Urzikstan. Developed by Raven Software, this map replaces Al Mazrah and brings with it 11 major points of interest, a drivable train, and plenty of small areas to explore. It’ll launch with the Battle Royale, Resurgence, and Plunder modes available. For those who prefer a smaller scale experience, both Ashika Island and Vondel will remain available. Expect a holiday themed event mid-season that brings special presents and a chance to battle a zombified Juggernaut Santa.
As with every previous season, Season 1 introduces a handful of new weapons that can be earned in-game through multiplayer, Zombies, or Warzone. On the Battle Pass, players can find the XRK Stalker sniper at Sector A4, the RAM-7 assault rifle at Sector A7, and the Stormender launcher at Sector A12. The HRM-9 SMG will debut mid-season as an Armory Unlock. Finally, the TAQ Evolvere will also arrive during the season, though how players can unlock it has not been revealed.

The former NPD Group (now named “Circana”) has released its full North American sales data for November, typically the biggest gaming month of the year, and surprisingly, the results weren’t that great. Players spent $5.9 billion on games, additional content, and hardware in November, a 9 percent year-on-year decrease. This was largely driven by a 24 percent drop in hardware spending, with all consoles being down double digits year-on-year. The PlayStation 5 was the #1 console, followed by the Xbox Series X/S, with the Switch really dropping off this season. It seems like inflation, and rumors that a new Switch is right around the corner, likely impacted hardware sales this year.
Just in time for the holidays, get a taste of Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III during the Free Access period from December 14 through 18. It launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on November 10 and is already the second best-selling game of 2023, behind Hogwarts Legacy.
