If you've played any of the Final Fantasy 7 games, you'll more than likely be aware of the Cait Sith debate. Due to the way the name is spelt and how the original Final Fantasy 7 featured no voice acting, arguments have raged for quite a while over how Cait Sith's name is pronounced. Most of us have it in our heads that the name is pronounced "Kate Sith", but there has always been a section of fans convinced it should be pronounced "Ket Shee" due to the character's background.
If you weren't aware, the character Cait Sith is very clearly inspired by Irish and Scottish mythology. Over the years, many have been pointing to the fairy creature Cat-sìth, which the character is most likely based on, to claim Cait Sith is actually pronounced "Ket Shee". Having roots in Scottish and Irish mythology, it convinced many to assume the Scottish Gaelic version was the correct pronunciation.

Unfortunately for those people, the debate has finally been put to bed by the official Final Fantasy 7 Twitter account, which cleared up the actual pronunciation of Cait Sith's name earlier today. According to the post, Cait Sith will be pronounced "Kate Sihth" when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches next year, which isn't the most common pronunciation, but it's pretty close to the "Kate Sith" one that most people assume it is.
Thankfully, the war over how Cait Sith is pronounced is finally over, and the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth should finally drive it home to anyone that's still in denial. We know that Cait Sith is going to be in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and that they will be playable, so perhaps hearing the name over and over again will ingrain it into the minds of the next generation to ensure there are no one else comes to blows over it.
In other Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth news, Cait Sith might be playable, but it was recently confirmed that everyone's favorite edgelord Vincent Valentine unfortunately won't be. We saw a glimpse of Vincent in the game's most recent trailer, but it was confirmed afterwards by director Naoki Hamaguchi that he will be an "accompanying character", similar to Red XIII in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. We won't have to go out of our way to actually meet him this time around though, so that's something.
The release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn't too far away either, as it was announced that the game will launch on January 26 next year, alongside a collector's edition that includes a massive ststaue of Sephiroth. Yes, it's 19 inches.

So, if you haven’t heard, some big things are going down in Final Fantasy XIV. Not only is a new expansion coming that will help start a new story and give players even more things to do, but a new collaboration will make Square Enix fans happy. Specifically, a collaboration with the most recent entry from the beloved RPG series will happen as Clive Rosfield arrives in the game and joins the Warriors of Light! Even more specifically, there’s a questline that is called “The Path Infernal,” and it’s there that you can meet Clive and battle monsters that appear to be like Eikons. You can watch the reveal trailer for that below.
When it comes to games coming out in 2024, it will be hard to top the hype for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It took quite a while for the original remake title to be released on PS4, but once it did, it was rather legendary. Square Enix put everything they could into this remake saga so that it would stand out visually, have advanced gameplay mechanics, and still feel like the original, but be expanded in ways they couldn’t do before. The result was one of the system’s best titles, and now, the sequel has the same hype attached to it.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will feature what is likely the most well-known event of the original, and of JRPGs in general, and it sounds like it will be surprising even for those who played the original.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has taken less than four years to develop thanks to team chemistry.
Final Fantasy 14’s 7.0 update won’t hit the MMO for almost another year, arriving alongside the game’s next expansion Dawntrail in the summer of 2024. Director Naoki Yoshida already has some plans for the next two major updates after that, though - but he’d really rather you didn’t ask about them.
Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi originally turned down the roleplaying game’s now-iconic soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu - until the legendary composer simply changed the track order, that is.
The London Final Fantasy Fan Fest has kicked off this morning with an impressive keynote speech that has finally unveiled one of the two jobs expected for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion. A few months ago during the Las Vegas Fan Fest, players around the world were teased a bit of information that there would be two new jobs added with the inclusion of the new expansion. At the time, speculations were all over the place as players came up with various theories — it didn’t help that FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida wore a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt at the time of said announcement which then prompted players to try and line up the letters like some kind of nerdy anagram. From Corsairs to Time Mages, all kinds of speculation arose. Carefully observant Warriors of Light may have noticed a tease of the potential melee job when watching the Dawntrail trailer, but it wasn’t enough detail to solidify good guesses.
Final Fantasy XIV is once again dipping into the rest of the storied series in a new series of raids and quests for the MMO.
Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.5 launched with the final tier of its Myths of the Realm Alliance Raid earlier this month, and it’s still packing secrets to discover. The new 24-man raid apparently has a little easter egg for players familiar with the MMO’s fishing lore, and it involves shooting your shot with one of the realm’s 12 gods, Llymlaen.
Square Enix hosted a panel for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth at New York Comic-Con 2023 hosted by Critical Role’s Matt Mercer, in which the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth voice cast discussed their experiences voicing the game’s iconic characters. During the panel, Matt Mercer confirmed he will voice Vincent Valentine, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi appeared for a surprise question-and-answer session at the end.
Final Fantasy has been such a massive franchise that spanned across decades and across multiple console generations. There’s been some truly standout installments from this long-running series as well. One of the more beloved games of the series was Final Fantasy VII, a title that blew up in multiple markets when it initially launched in 1997 for the Sony PlayStation. Since then, fans worldwide have pleaded for Square Enix to return and bring out a remake for this JRPG installment. Fortunately, in 2020, we finally got the first part of this remake. Since this game installment was so massive, the developers could only deliver the game in parts. We’re going to receive Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second installment to this trilogy remake, in 2024.
